How to cook a suburban!!

These pictures are of Michael's suburban. I just got a change to look at it yesterday. It has been modified with a Vortec 454 engine. The entire sub is going under restoration. When it's done it will have a color scheme of a 55-57 Chevy. The under coating is awsome. It's better than powder coating and colored too. Maybe Michael can provide more pics. Check them out.
Sub on grill
Sub underside on grill.
Sub mounted on frame with 454 Vortec engine.

I just want a ride in the sub after its done. I just want feel the Vortec 454 smoking the tires.

Damn that looks good. Cant wait to see the finished product. Why does the under side of the tranny hump looked kinked/wrinkled? In the second picture you can clearly see it. Is this from a wreck or something, or is that common, and I just never noticed it?

Thumbs up

I have been wanting to do this to my 85 for years but never met anyone who did it them selves. How long did it take you, just to strip the burban down to the bone? Is that rack home made?

You have a good looking truck there! Hope to see it when it's done.

Michael posted these comments:
The Facts:

1985 Rust free Texas 3rd owner Suburban. 1975 heavy duty 3 quarter ton frame. All completely powder coated from front bumper bracket to rear bumper bracket. 75 big block punched 40 over, balanced with RV roller rocker cam. Standard oval port Chevy heads ported and relieved. 96 Chevy big block Vortec fuelie unit new. Computer and all wiring by Street and Performance. T400 trany with mild shift kit and aluminum 2 qt extra oil pan. 373 rear end for now until I get it on the road and see how the RPM's are. May convert to lower gears and Posi.

Body was plastic media blasted and all areas stripped by sanding or sand blasted to bare metal. The complete underside of the body as well as the rear wheel wells and up to the factory pinch weld seam on the firewall was coated with color matched Line-X polyurethane by Line-X of San Antonio. Self etching primer, urethane primers, and paints used to refinish her. Firewall was done the same to remove the nasty factory undercoating. Metal dash parts were painted silver gray to match the silver gray interior I am installing out of my 89 Suburban donor/driver. She will be a tow vehicle for my restoration shop and every now and then daily use. This has been a 5 year project in process.

I have finished all the body work and am in final paint on all the doors and front clip. each part has been painted off the project. The two tone paint is done to 1955 Chevy Belair style. The colors are base clear metallic by Dupont.
The 1955 Bel Air style trim will be air brushed on both sides. All will be in Silver as well as pin striping and some Chevy graphics.
Finish date: For Summer use.

Hope you all enjoy

Michael
