Anyone use 2quart oil filter?
Well the big block and small block use the same oil filter. I always used Napa Gold filters, the grain trucks (C60) had the same oil filter base but called for the longer 2 quart (1794) filter, we always installed this filter on our pick-up trucks for a extra quart of oil. I just wondered if anyone else does this?

Re: Anyone use 2quart oil filter?
as long as the filter fits without leakage and the oil level is correct you can run whatever filter you want. In some applications tho a larger filter could be more of a pain that its worth if it can be damaged by road debris

Re: Anyone use 2quart oil filter?
Ive done it for years, may be a problem on lowered trucks, but never had an issue with mine.

Re: Anyone use 2quart oil filter?
I've always used AC Delco PF-1218 for my SBC or BBC motors. A friend of mine uses the same PF-1218 for the race engines he builds with zero failure.

Re: Anyone use 2quart oil filter?
I assume the Ac-Delco that you guys are talking about is a two quart filter as well?
Ac\Delco makes good stuff to! There was a air filter comparison test a while back where they out flowed and out filtered every filter in the test. |

Re: Anyone use 2quart oil filter?
I remember when the 1218 came out and replaced the pf 35, and all the strange looks at the parts counter. Jay

Re: Anyone use 2quart oil filter?
My family were road racers running B Production Corvettes. Back then the Chevy Power Manual and the HP Monroe book were all the written material on SB Chevies we had and we followed them. We used the old center bolt style long truck filter-not the spin-on but the older style element filter-on a remote pad. I don't know if you can still get these but there was a center bolt short and long truck style and both a remote pad and a block mounted conversion or adapter. I think the long one was also used on some Detroit Diesels. Our tow rig was one of the Navy modified IH Travelalls with 4-53 DD power and the godawful Clark transmission and it used the exact same element and can. I can only presume that was factory for that engine.
It's also interesting to note that as per both those books we never used any oil but AD Aeroshell. Although we were never all that successful, we rarely DNFed and never shelled an engine in a race that I can remember so it must have worked pretty well. I had a Corvair (daily driver in high school) and I used Aeroshell in it too and it never caused a problem either. |
