windshield wiper switch

i am trying to install a new wiper switch. i have an 84 suburban and i can get the ignition switch off. how am i supposed to do this. what else am i supposed to do to get to the switch. i hvae the steering wheel off and im down to the wheels lock plate. dont konw what else to do other than that. help me out if you can. thanks....

Go to the auto parts store and buy a spring compressing tool made for this. use the tool and a screwdriver to take the locking ring out. Behind all that you will find the retaining screw for the ignition
