Re: cant find any straight answers 700r4
you dont need it if you do a dummy lockup converter. you can still utilize the 4th gear. or painless performance or tci makes your converter lockup work in 4th gear only by plugging in the plug and locking up through vacuum.

You need one of these, if you don't already have it.

Re: cant find any straight answers 700r4
the small 4 pin connector on the driver's side is for tourqe converter lock up, if it has another plug on the other side it is a computer controll'd 700R4E . I ran a 700R4 in my V8 s10 with out the TC lock up hook'd up for 4 or 5 years with no problem's . with a little research you can find how to hook it up with out buy'n an expensive kit . one thing to remember ir that the 700R4 is as long as a "long" tail shaft T350 which I believe is what your truck has .

The stock driveshaft presently in your truck will work perfect I did swap on my 86 with TH350c and driveshaft was right length.
