what the heck is a big 10 anyways?

hey guys,
i was just reading another thread on here that mentioned big 10's and it got me wondering what the differentiates a big 10 from a regular half ton.

is it the same thing as a heavy half?

any extra options?

thanks in advance for feeding my curiosity.

I would think the big 10's are the same as a heavy duty 1/2ton = 1/2 ton running gear with 3/4 ton springs.

"Big 10" was Chevys heavy duty half ton . 56 inch rear springs bigger brakes ,etc.

"Heavy Half" was actually GMC's version of the same setup .

it was only offered for 2 or 3 years, the main reason it was offered was to get around emissions. you got the bigger springs than a regular half ton and a higher gvw. since the gvw was higher, it was at a different tier for emissions. and they ran on leaded gas
