Re: carb
Could be a number of things. Does it still have the quadrajet? Fuel filter been changed? Did you do anything prior to this condition starting?

Re: carb
For the off idle stumble:
First thing I would check is the accelerator pump. With the engine off and the air cleaner removed, pump the throttle by hand and see if fuel squirts into the bores of the carb. If you see a nice steady stream of fuel the accelerator pump is ok. The next thing is to check for a vacuum leak. Check for any vacuum lines that may be cracked, broken, or disconnected. Make sure there are no vacuum ports on the carb that are uncapped. Check that the bolts that hold the carb down are not loose, however be careful not to overtighten them as they do not need to be real tight. With the engine running you can spray carb cleaner around the base of the carb. If the engine speeds up, that means there is a vacuum leak. Finally, ensure that the ignition is in good shape and the timing is set to the proper amount.
