Rear end question
I have a rear from an older firebird now installed in my truck. I just got info on a rear that is from a 93-02 camaro, posi, and disc brakes. My question is if this will work or if it is too wide. I was told that the rear is about 61" rotor to rotor. IF I remember correctly my rear was about 55 inches backing plate to backing plate. The price is right on this rear if it will work. Also I forgot to ask if the bolt pattern is 5 x 4.75. I was told it came out of a 6speed z28 and it has 3.23 gears. Thanks for the help. I believe my rear was about an 1980 trans am .

Re: Rear end question
If it is what it is described as it should work. The stock rear is about 62 inches wide wheel mounting to wheel mounting. The lug pattern should be 5 x 4-3/4.

Re: Rear end question
This might be some helpful data for comparison:
My stock '55 Stepside rearend is 61-1/4, drum-to-drum (i.e., to the wheel mounting surfaces). A '65 Nova 5-lug 10-bolt housing is 58" wide at the wheel mounting surfaces (52" at the back plate perch). With 8" Corvette ralleys (3-3/4" backspace) & 275/60-15s (11" wide, 27" tall), tires sit at 70" wide (48" on the inside). I would have to tub the inside at least a couple of inches for this to fit my truck. On the outside, 73" wide package will just barely fit between my rear fenders. |
