86 blazer 350 check engine light

Need a little advice here. I have a co-worker with an 86 blazer stock 350 that stopped running last week. When he disconnects the carb air fuel solenoid it will start and run fine but the check engine light comes on. If it is hooked up he has to sit there and pump the carb to get it to idle and it barely idles when he does this. He has read all the solenoids out and everything seems to be reading fine acording to the book. Does anybody have any insight to the workings of these flashing lights and smoking mirrors?

Not sure what the code is but he doesnt get it until he unplugs the carb air fuel solenoid so I would imagine its the code for that.
