I am going to spray a chrome glove box door with black krinkle paint to match my gauge bezel. My guess is Eastweed Krinkle Black, and maybe scuff the chrome with some 180 grit?

1. What is the best kind of krinkle paint to use?

2. And what kind of prep should I do to the chrome?

a 67 glove box door has the same finish as the cluster already. like this one. if you need it pm me

get wrinkel paint from loal discout autoparts store and save on shipping// to make it wrinkle good i use a 100wattbulb in a cheapo aluminum reflector to heat it and make it work good

Cool. So warm it up a little while it dries, got it. And just scuff the chrome?

I've used Harley-Davidson black wrinkle paint on other things. It's pretty durable. If you like the way their engines look, it might be something to consider...

I've done this in the past... twice, and if I do it again (I plan on it) I won't do it the same way you describe.
I would order a woodgrain sticker, and paint that with the black paint, then stick it on. Less chance of tape lines, leaves the dimple around the button chrome, and would look better all around.
I always put duct tape on the edge of mine, and tossed them in the sand blaster to prep the chrome.

Excellent idea with the woodgrain. I think they sale a thin plastic sticker in clear or white at the home improvement store and I could use my old glove box door as a template. A little soapy water so I can move it around. That's the way to go i think, if I don't like it then start over.....cool.

I really don't recommend the woodgrain idea. The aftermarket woodgrains tend to shrink and peel if not properly applied. You wouldn't want your paint flaking off. I think you are best off masking with some good 3m masking tape, and spraying light coats to build up the wrinkle finish. I am about to restore a 67 glove box door as well. Trevor

I agree with Andy on sandblasting the area you want to paint. If you don't I don't think the paint will stay on the chrome very long.

Have it powdercoated. It's much more durable.

Here is one I did in silver then wrinkle powder on the insert. It was a junk, rusty door that I just did to play with the technique. ..

Here is a picture of some valve covers I did yesterday. Wrinkle powder is the bomb.

Very true. You will end up with a very uniform finish too.

It is "very" important to apply wrinkle paint evenly with minimal overlap. I would recommend preheating the surface evenly as well.
