Auburn Pro Series differential question.

Originally I thought this was from setting up too long between run periods, but after a day at the track, I think my differential has quit being a "limited" slip.

With drag radials I getting a one tire fire in the burn out box (not in the water but on dry pavement). With the rear of the truck off the ground both tires rotate by hand in the same direction.

This is an 8.5 10 bolt differential. installed in 2007. Am I expecting too much?

On a track only vehicle, is a spool ok on pavement?

Might make sure you don't have an axle seal or wheel cylinder leaking . Fluid on one side and not the other will cause this . Does the truck have a line lock or are you just footbraking it ? Also a good diff shop with have a torque wrench type set up to test the ft. lbs the diff is transfering . The drawback of a limited slip is that it will only tryand apply X amout of torque to the other tire if the grip is greater than that torque the clutches in the diff slip . Next time you are in the box a see this going on , stop and attempt the burnout again and see if both spin . the one that spun should be hot and sticky forcing the other or both to spin .

A spool is what most Drag Strip Only trucks and cars have. You can run on street with a mini spool or real spool but it will drag one tire when turning. To some folks this is a big deal but I have driven a few like this and it doesn't bother me.

Which style auburn do you have? Clutch or Cone. If its clutch it can be rebuilt. If its a cone style the carrier is probably trash and you need another.

Thanks for the replys, foot braking, not totally sure but I think the Pro series is the cone style. The truck has become a trailered vehicle under development.

Is there is an advantage between a mini or full spool, a spool is not a spool when...? I mean there is a reason why both are made.

Typically you use a mini spool with stock axles(it goes in a stock non posi carrier) A full spool takes the place of the carrier and can be bought for higher spine axles.

Aiming at about 600 hp some day. ( sooner would be good ). thanks

I have the regular Auburn limited slip and my tires either hook together or spin together every time. Sounds to me like your problem is in the unit.

spool with c clip eliminators since its a track only truck... takes so much headache out of "limited slip diffs" and its cheaper. you can litterally get a good mini spool for 30 dollars. and your axles will break before the mini spool will. the bad thing about a mini spool is that it dosnt "bite" as much of the axle as a full spool does. i recomend a spool though.

you gonna run slicks/drag radials? 600hp is probably more than I would put in front of a 10bolt at the track with sticky tires.

Spool is cheapest way out for now, but down the road, what rear end would be better suited instead of an 8.5 10 bolt?

With a spool is it a requirement to have C clip eliminators at any ET? (aint fast yet)

With that kind of power I would go with either a Dana 60 or a 9 inch.
You cannot run C-clips with either a spool or a mini spool regardless of your ET. There is no way to get the C clips in there.

I'm wanting to run a mini spool with clip eliminators, what machine work is required with stock axels???????. Some advertisments for c clip eliinators are saying machine work required. Do you just weld on a bolt flange oris there somthing more to it?????. Thanks.
