6 cylinder Automatic?
I am surfing the web at truck ads and came across a 1970 Chev 1/2 ton listed with a 6 cylinder and an automatic transmission.
I do not think I have ever seen a 6 cylinder with an automatic, where they made? http://www.classicgoldenautos.com/sh...91&layout=full

Re: 6 cylinder Automatic?
Yes, you could get that combo, I know members 72BlckButy and lolife99 both have original six cylinder/powerglide trucks

Re: 6 cylinder Automatic?
They were out there. Either a powerglide in the first 3 years or th350 later. But usually if the buyer of the new truck was too cheep to spend $42 for a 307 or $44 to upgrade to a 350V-8 they were also too cheep to spend three or four times as much for an automatic.

Re: 6 cylinder Automatic?
Gotta remember that there were a lot of us that were car/truck enthusiasts back in the 70's and 80's. We would buy an older truck or car and make conversions to suit our purpose. Back then, parts were easily available since most of these vehicles could be ordered either way. I've converted a couple of trucks and one car.
Fifteen, twenty years from now, some of you may be reading a post from some young guy asking if his 72 originally came with a 700 R4. |

Re: 6 cylinder Automatic?
My 69 C-10 was a 6 cylinder from the factory and was ordered with the turbo 350 as an option.
Some previous owner put a 350 crate motor in, and I've been spending the last three months (weather permitting, and it ain't been permitting much in the land of perma-rain) fixing or trying to fix all the screwups from this PO. |

Re: 6 cylinder Automatic?
I had an older Ford (I know) 3/4 ton equipped with a 300 inline six and a C-6 auto. It had reasonable power, great mileage and could tow a 10K trailer.

Re: 6 cylinder Automatic?
Most 250's had 3 speed manuals. The 250 with auto is uncommon. The 292 with auto is even more uncommon. However, government agencys usually bought this powertrain for lower price and driving ease.

Re: 6 cylinder Automatic?
I wouldnt think they'd worry so much about the fuel economy, but more likely the price of the option. My grandfather purchased a brand new 2 ton international truck in 67.. yet he ordered it with manual steering due to the cost of power steering. We've still got the truck and still wish he'd spent the $$ LOL
