What did you get done 2/28/10 end of olympics edition

I didnt do anything truck related this week except for pickup the passenger airbag switch for the S10 and get that installed without deploying the airbags
then we had more snow so i dug the truck out again...
My birthday was mid week this past week so we spent much of this weekend relaxing and celebrating...
How about you all??

Cut up a lower control arm to shorten it for more camber, put the 5.3 on the stand pulled the accessory drive, removed the broken exhaust manifold bolt and gave it a light scrubbing. Jay

For the first time in a long time I actually got some truck related work done. I finished up the 73 grille swap on my K5. I didnt realize I would have to change the top core support, and hood mechanism to get it done the swap didnt take long if you dont count the extra trip to the bone yard to get the parts I needed Now I'm doing the snow dance

Re: What did you get done 2/28/10 end of olympics edition

Got tranny, drive shaft and driver side suspension mounted and she saw daylight first time in 5 Mounths.

Sorry for the poor pics, but i cant really get my new camera to work proberly.

it felt good to see it with wheels on again a huge mile stone for the project
still alot to do and some parts have to replaced (center bearing, upper balljoints, control arm shafts etc) drive shaft have to painted, some spots on the frame have to get repainted, the last 4 brake lines have to be made and alot of more.

She aint no show stopper, but a work horse.

Filled the bed up with topsoil for the backyard... Rear of the truck sits pretty nice with a ton of dirt in it

Re: What did you get done 2/28/10 end of olympics edition

I worked on the bed floor fuel inlet for my 64 project yesterday (build thread updated) & got a rear end for my 74 from a co-workers brother.

Today, I wanted to start prepping the newly acquired rear for installation into my 74. Glad I started early.... The 3.73's it was supposed to have turned out to be 3.08's. Plan-B; a quick phone conversation w/Jonboy yielded another 12-bolt (this one w/3.73's) in my possession. I'll service this one w/some fresh seals & axle bearings & maybe get it swapped next weekend.

Best thing about it? FREE! I'm amazed by the generosity of many board members. To 'repay' this generosity, I offered to assist when Jonboy gets closer to the 'drop date' on his 79.

Re: What did you get done 2/28/10 end of olympics edition

Spent the weekend catching up on a few things around the house. Ran a 150' of Cat-5 cable to the garage, now I have reliable internet in the Man Cave.

When i came home from work Thursday my wife informed me that our trip to Atlantic City was canceled. She decided we're leaving early in the morning (Monday) for the Pocono mountains. Should be interesting, we both hate snow. LOL.

Re: What did you get done 2/28/10 end of olympics edition

didn't get anything done to either truck this weekend...

me and my wife were on our way to the zoo yesterday, and we had bought a two child stroller because some of you know we have a little boy that'll be here next month...figured we'd take it with us and let our daughter test "ride" it and we could try it out and see how things went...well, it barely fit in the trunk of our accord...so on the way to the zoo, we decided to skip it and go car shopping for something that would have enough room in the trunk...the one and only car that we test drove was a 2008 Accord...very nice car and the stroller fit in the trunk nicer, although almost just as tight...on the test drive I noticed that the transmission had a whine, the wheels had a wop in them going down the road, and the ergonomics of some things in the car weren't right...I also realized that while driving this almost brand new car that our 11 year old Honda drove better and felt better...so we left in our Accord...fast forward to this morning...

got up this morning, polished the headlights and taillights(will have a FAQ up with pictures of this later)...the headlights were really oxidized, not so much now......bought the stuff to do that 6 months ago...vacuumed and wiped down the inside of the car...wash and waxed the outside...put the almost new 18" wheels and tires I was trying to sell back on the car...and now the car is nicer than it was before...I told the wife that instead of a new car payment and a car that we don't know the problems of, I'd put a couple of hundred dollars into our Accord and make it real nice...plans are to recover the seats and door inserts in leather and suede, replace the carpet, recover the headliner and sunvisors in suede...and then I'm going to do a full tune up on it...plugs, wires, cap, rotor, all filters and fluid change, belts, thermostat (already have this)...and I'm going to install a factory 6 disc in dash cd changer in it...

Chuck.

Vitually nothing for the truck. Unfortunately I went Craigslist shopping and didn't ispect a cement mixer close enough to discover the barrel was cracked nearly all the way around at the hub. I just can't win lately

Make sure you post a few pics of this mod.
I'd like to see how everyone is doing this and how much they narrow the control arm.
I always though 1/2"-3/4" would be enough.

Re: What did you get done 2/28/10 end of olympics edition

My wife was out of town at the end of this week, so I hung out with my daughter for a while. After she went to bed, I was able to tinker in the garage a bit. I got my rechromed bumpers back this week, and the front is on, and looks good. I need to meet up with a fellow board member to pick up the rear brackets, though. I also got my other '91 Suburban dash installed. In the last one, the speedometer did not work, but the odometer did. This one the speedometer works, but the odometer doesn't, so that's good enough for me.

This afternoon, I met up with Scoti to get him the 12 bolt rear for his truck. Seeing how well his trucks sits in person is really making me want to get mine lowered. The rally wheels also look excellent on his truck, so I may have to go that route. Had to cut it short because I was late for dinner, but it's always good to BS about trucks for a while.

Re: What did you get done 2/28/10 end of olympics edition

Bought a water meter/membership earlier this week, and just worked... But then this weekend rolled around and I went to a local swap meet and bought all kinds of goodies. I bought a NOS 85-87 grille and grille molding still in the factory box, a 1970 coded bolt in center olds rally wheel, a bumper piece for my 06 and some tools. Today I kinda relaxed from all the walking at the swap meet, and washed the rallye and took the pup (Ruger) for a cruise.

Here are some pics of my Rallye

Yeah boxers are great dogs, super smart and even more hard headed.. lol. They can be a little too hyper at times tho. I Just finished a thread with all the details and story on my rallye in the alternate tinkerings section if anyone cares to take a look.

Re: What did you get done 2/28/10 end of olympics edition

well this weekend i finally decided to get my ass over to where im keeping my truck and start on the autometer conversion, im not doing it like the other guys are doing it but i really like the way its coming out.

and i also got a buddy of mine to get my truck running right we basically took the carb apart rebuilt it, got the truck running ok, set the timing, and then realized the carb is too small for the new heads. then i took it for a drive sitting on the floor board to the gas station to get her filled up with some new gas., damn it feels great to drive my truck again after almost a year and a half.

then did some yard work around the house.
