66 Beds, Tell me I'm not losing my mind

Just got new bed wood from Mar-K for my 66 C-10 finished sanded and put it up for dry fit. The holes are an inch off,..... Noticed when I stripped the old wood out that some of the cross members were bent or kinda torqued, so it may have been wrecked. Now I'm thinking,.....
Could this be another year stepside bed, put on my truck? Is the only difference for one year to the other the drill pattern?
Any help would be appreciated,.......

Chenevix:
Why not call the Mar-K sales office. They can help you figure out if the wood is wrong, or if you have a different year bed on your truck. 67-72 bolt holes are about 1" different than '66. If you can get a few measurements of where your wood holes are they can tell you which year wood you have.

Re: 66 Beds, Tell me I'm not losing my mind

mar-k has the info somewhere on thier site, 55-59. 60-62. 63-66. 67-? is how I remember the breakdown... differences include cross sills, and or amount of strips and pieces of wood.

I didn't realize your bed was together, so I thought I might be able to offer some insight on the cross sill order and if your bed appears to be a '60-'66. Although the stepside fenders are the same for the '55-'66, I believe the rear cross sill configuration and the mounting locations are different between the years. Mar-K is the resident expert on these matters, so the tech line is the answer.

Re: 66 Beds, Tell me I'm not losing my mind

Thanks for the help guys. I'm going to call this morning and see what they say. After messuring the bed it looks likle the holes are exactly 1" off. so it looks like I may have a bed from a later year installed. I'll find out as soon as they open.

Did you install the boards right? The front holes are not in the same location as the rear holes. ..... Hey it could happen..

If only it were that easy,...
Called them this morning, and believe it or not they had already been following this post. Mark and Vicki were very helpful, and gave me the info I need to check my truck and find out what I need to do. Will check everything when I get off work, and keep ya posted of the progress.

Re: 66 Beds, Tell me I'm not losing my mind

jonz has it right. The beds from 55-66 are the same exept for some bolt pattern changes. Your bed is most likely not from a 66.

Cool Re: 66 Beds, Tell me I'm not losing my mind

Yeah I think your right. I measured the bolts and the holes in the bed boards, both different. Now I have to figure out which bed I do have,....
The bolt measurements are: (close as I can measure with a tape) measured from the front of the bed. 3 3/8" 14 1/4" 59 7/8" and 73". The last hole is the only one that matches with the boards in place.
Gotta call Mar-K in the morning see if they can help me figure it out.

Re: 66 Beds, Tell me I'm not losing my mind

OK Update,
This is what happens when you don't build it yourslef and get a project someone else started. I think we have determined a 67-72 bed has been installed on my 66. So at least 2 boards and all the bed strips are wrong. I will have to reorder at least these parts. Looks like I will have some left overs. Anyone needing any bed parts? New still in the box!

Re: 66 Beds, Tell me I'm not losing my mind

Chenevix,

When I purchased my 65 swb ss truck it had a 67-72 bed on it. I changed the fenders over to 58-66. If you need to confirm that the bed you have is truly a 67-72 I would be glad to pull whatever dimensions you need.

Just thought I would throw that offer out there.....
