How to "get to know" my axles?
Is there a number somewhere on my axles that would tell me exactly what my axle's are? Including what year the axle is and such? Where do I find it and where could I decode it?
Thanks, Nova

Yes it's a 4x4. I don't mean the actual axles, I mean the front and rear end. How do I figure out what year it is? I don't think they're original so if I can find out what year I might be able to get a rear disc set up cheap. I believe the rear is a 12 bolt but how do I know what year?

12 bolt could be stock. If they are six lug most likley a dana 44 front and a 12 bolt rear. But its a chevy so anything could have been swapped in

Dana axles have a BOM number stamped on the tube that will identify the year and original application.

Re: How to "get to know" my axles?
I know the front axle isn't stock because my truck was a C10 from the factory. I have no clue how to tell. I looked at the axle tubes and didn't see any numbers or anything on there so I'm assuming neither are Dana's. I will get some pics tomorrow.

Re: How to "get to know" my axles?
The number is on front of the tube to the left (as you look from front) of the differential housing. Are they disc brakes on front? Can you see the u-joints in the drive axles between the ball-joints?You might want to identify your transfer case as well, since it`s a conversion. For that matter, the transmission. If your truck had factory rear leafs that could be original.I`m curious beyond your axles. We can figure out how the 4wd conversion was done with the right pictures and your answers. It`s fun!!
