diagnostic code
CEL Came on so I bought the code reader and came up with a P0442 Code which according to my machine is a Evaporative Emmission System Leak Detected ( small Leak) so i guess i should start at the charcoal cannister?
We cleared the code and so far its stayed off. The CE: came on after a long trip with a load in the bed

Re: diagnostic code
I think a loose gas cap could potentially set that code. I wouldn't replace anything yet.

Re: diagnostic code
its funny you bring this up.. i just changed a couple of weeks ago to a lockin aftermarket gas cap. Since ive done this, i notice that when i shut the truck off after its bee run a bit its harder to start and cranks a bit before it catches.. in addition when i took the cap off the other day to refuel the bottom of the cap had a bit of gas on it and was damp.. im wondering if the whole problem is the gas cap..
you know i looked online and found this i guess i should do more research before i post.. then again i can be lazy http://www.obd-codes.com/p0442

Re: diagnostic code
Let us know if the gas cap fixes your problem. I've replaced mine twice now and still come up with the same code (almost all the time). I've had my bed off about 4 times now, so I'm wondering if I cracked the hose leading to the filler neck or if that's a common problem area.
I relocated my charcoal canister a while back, and made sure there were no leaks, so I'm trying to count that out as a possibility...
