K5 or C5?
If a C10 is a 2wd, and a K10 is a 4wd, what is a 2wd Blazer?? Is "K5" the body code, or is "5" the body code? Is my 76 2wd Blazer a K5 or C5??? This has always bugged me!!!

Re: K5 or C5?
True but i think what puzzles him is the fact that its a 2WD. So why did GM call it a k5?
Does not follow the logic they establish withe the pick up trucks. I think ts just a matter of badgeing since the VIN has a C or K to indicate 2wd or 4wd. there was a post a wile back that had allot of input on this subject, i just could not find it.

Re: K5 or C5?
O.... I almost forgot,
If its a 1/2 ton why a "5"? on all other chassis C,K,R,V,P 10= 1/2 ton, 20= 3/4 ton, 30= 1 ton etc.....

Re: K5 or C5?
is it really a 1/2 ton since its not a fullsize truck. its short wheelbase kills any towing capacity. even though it has half ton springs and axles...

Re: K5 or C5?
I would assume so since tow capacty is manly determined by the front and rear axle capacity of course once you get into the bigger rigs frame strength is diferent

Re: K5 or C5?
True! Dont forget the Crewcabs! Mine is a 1990 V3500.. Try ordering parts for it, you have to double check every time and make sure the guy didn't punch in 1990 "K3500"

Re: K5 or C5?
Well I was thinking of getting a personalized plate and didn't want to have anything with a "K5" if it actually isn't a K5..

Re: K5 or C5?
Good discussion, and I came to the conclusion that if GM didn't make one, then I would.
That's why I decided to build my own C5 Blazer. And to take it one step further, sine they did not exist in 68' I am making one of mine a 50th Anniversary edition.. I also like the idea of a personal plate reading C5 Blzr or something, if for no other reason than to get people to ask questions..

It's just a marketing label. We can make any kind of badge they want and stick it on the side of a truck. The marketing folks can change these terms on a whim, just like when a Chevy was a C10 and a GMC was a C15 (although no difference in the actual parts or packages). I hesitate to bring up the difference between a C10 and an R10 (ie, "none") but only because engineering initiated that change K
