April 2010 TOTM
Truck Of The Month (TOTM) Contest
OK, the contest you have all been waiting for, our annual honoring to those that set the basis for our truck world. The theme of this month’s TOTM is What is That? Yep, you guessed it. The theme for this month will be our less than perfect specimens; our beaters, our beasts, our rust-buckets, our TRUCKS. Now here are the rules or criteria for the vehicles To be an eligible BEATER
To Nominate: You or someone else may nominate the vehicle. Just add the nomination to this thread. We will need a picture or two (preferably 2) of the nominee vehicle, the owner’s board name, and any of the basics specs (year, engine/drive train specs) you or your nominee wish to provide. I normally use 1 picture showing a good front view and 1 with a rear view of the vehicles on the voting threads. If the owner has a preferred picture they want used in the contest, please let me know in a PM. Nominees will through March 24. If additional information is needed, I will PM the first 15 nominees to get any additional data or pictures if they have not already been provided. You can PM me for an e-mail address in case anyone has problems resizing the pictures for the board. A Poll Thread will be set up in this board area and an announcement will be posted on the Discussion Boards to notify all of the voting. The Poll will start to run on March 25 and will run until the morning of April 1. The official announcement of the winner will be on the afternoon of April 1. The announcement of this month’s TOTM winner will be posted through the General Discussion Board area.

Re: April 2010 TOTM
I'm the legal owner, but it is a father/son project and most of the credit goes to my oldest who started this fine specimine with a $100 cab when he was 13. He turned 17 last Friday and took it for a burnout, er, spin.
327/NV3500 5 speed, S10 frame, 54 Bel Air column, 88 full size seat, 53 tail lights, 70s swap meet tailgate, S10 Blazer tank, no bed floor, and a pair of doors we pulled off of a truck we found rotting in a field in Ohio that have people asking how we made the "patina" for the lettering. Easy, buy a 50 year old pile with great doors that were lettered sometime in the 50s or 60s! With NEW red hood...soon to change...to dark blue or black...the next one is too dirty to tell right now! Even in winter, she starts right up and goes. Last edited by Dan Bowles; 03-17-2010 at 08:31 PM. |

Quote:
it is as Shawn mentioned a 1968 GMC C15 (wonder where my username came from?) summer of 2008 I spent a weekend getting my truck more presentable. trust me, it was worse before. when I made a run to the dump I hooked the bungee cords into rust holes on the bedsides. LOL the only part that is original is the cab and frame. all the other body parts came from various donors. the front suspension and brakes came from an 80 C10. rear suspension from a 71 C10 that was made into a trailer before I acquired it. engine is from a 79 3/4T van (lots of work there). booster is from a 74 C10. TH350 tranny is from the shop floor, I traded a 12 pack of Bud Lite for it then did a rebuild. tilt column was hand made from 3 different columns. seat is out of an 89 F150 as the first pic shows and a few board members can attest to, it is more than capable of working hard and comes back asking for more. somewhere I have a pic of my 5420 pound load of scrap iron headed to the recycler. OK, enough jibber-jabber. how 'bout some pics? oops, I almost forgot the money pic from Bosselman's in DesMoines IA last winter. Last edited by 68C15; 03-17-2010 at 10:23 PM. |

Re: April 2010 TOTM
I'll throw mine in there. 69 GMC 1500, 350/700r4. My dd. Definitely has a couple holes and some rust and a miscolored tailgate. What you can't see is the back of the cab behind the bed is blue and a shade of green mixed in there.... Doors are primered outside but silver inside, they are off a 71.

I edited my post. I guess Ellen's is more fitting. I guess I got a little excited that there was something my truck "could" be entered into.

Re: April 2010 TOTM
Hehe...thanks a bunch Matt...I guess.
Me and C-10 trucked over 120 miles for that danged tree...so it's nice to have ya' show it off for me! I'm honored to be nominated in this contest and in light of the nomination, a little background might be in order... 'C-10' was purchased in about 1989 for $256 at auction. No tranny or drive line, no-top half of the engine and no interior. I just had to have her! She was cobbled together with maginal parts back then and ran on a 200k 350 SBC until 2007 and a worn-out race car tranny. Since that time, she's gotten a rebuilt, stock 327 LJ engine (2007), it still has the worn-out race car tranny (basically a used/abused turbo 400, but still going strong) and new suspension and brakes, installs spanning from 1998 thru 2009. Better wiring was salvaged from a 1990 GMC a couple years ago. She may be a beater but she is also my very safe daily driver and the love of my life! BTW... She was once one color (marginally, thanks to Krylon). My much loved beater...I'd be on foot without her! Good Luck everyone! Ellen Last edited by ETsC10; 03-21-2010 at 05:04 PM. |
