What to do, My new 88 crewcab dually c30 toy 1st time on my own
Just got me a chevy 88 crewcab dually, first project, well, what can I say, bought it 2 weeks ago, came with a 350 engine,(got it running) not original, original was a 454 but it was replaced by last owner. Well I have never rebuilt a carburetor there for I got a friend mechanic do it for me for a small fee$$$ its an edelbrock 750cfm carb, it also has an edelbrock intake manifold, don't know much about it other then the body is straight, I cleaned the gas tanks, replaced fuel filters, fixed and replaced leaking hoses from power steering pump, nice tune up to go with it. the rear back fender on the driver side is missing a big piece, dont know what to do with that, hopefully someone here will point me out in the right direction. I live in Pasadena, TX and I would like to learn more about cars and engines, so if you need an extra hand and live near send me an pm. I would like to learn more.

You can also get the dually fenders here http://www.up22.com/chevytruck.htm
Nice starting point, and great price. Wish I could find one that complete for that price.

Mine's not a Dually, but I only payed $500 for my '87 Crew Cab in Topeka, KS. Granted I bought it off my ol'man....but he picked it up for $650. He sold it to me when the trans went out. (currently being rebuilt for $450) Hey, Conundrum, I'm from S.E. Kansas myself. Pittsburg for 12 years. BBut I like out here in Cali now. I do miss living in much cheaper Kansas.

Re: What to do, My new 88 crewcab dually c30 toy 1st time on my own
I actually like the c20 better or the non dually, as they have a look that catches my eye, but hey for what i payed for the C30 its worth more, anyway I have to replace a few things on the truck, exhaust needs replacement, or I need to get it fixed, makes some noise, im currently rewiring the truck, my dome light does not work and im trying to find the damn wire that goes straight to the fuse box or switch. Today i removed the grille, headlights, I also rewired the Horn, replace lots of electrical wire, still have some electrical left but now its minimal

Re: What to do, My new 88 crewcab dually c30 toy 1st time on my own
I'd keep it...you could take the frame and shorten it, take the dually bed and sell it off and buy a short bed...then you have a crewcab and a shortbed...both of the things you want...you've already put some sweat into the truck...don't get discouraged...
also, looking at your gauge bezel, it looks like the truck originally had a 6.2 diesel engine under the hood not a 454...if you take the gauge bezel off and there are wires, plugs and lights connected into the indicator light insert in the top middle of the gauge bezel, I can almost guarantee the truck came with a diesel from the factory...on the other hand, if it doesn't have anything going there, then maybe someone switched that gauge bezel for one from out of a diesel... |
