1964 C-30 dump

I was just wondering if anyone has ever converted one of these to a one ton fleet side 4x4 with single wheels? how much work might be involved? I'm new here but have seen lots of nice trucks!

is it already a 4x4?
if so and it has the 8 lug rear wheels, you should ba able to convert to a single wheel.

if not the only real big issue I see is if it has the 127 inch frame or not, you could also get a 133 inch frame on the c30's and if it has that you will have a gap between the box and cab.

You would have to find a 3/4 or 1 ton front axle with the matching gear ratio as your rear...your frame may already be drilled for the leaf spring front axle. Then a transfer case. A doner truck would be ideal....no small job but doable.

The wheelbase is most likely 133 inches so you'd have to shorten it 6 inches to use a standard fleetside box. An alternative would be to lengthen the box like the Longhorns were.

Re: 1964 C-30 dump

Just one guys opinion, but there are plenty of the "the truck I always wanted" out there. Go out and find one. The C-30s are pretty rugged work trucks and are not going to get to be really street wise without a lot of money and work. Don't take this the wrong way, but I think you're wasting your time and effort on a truck that can't be what you want it to be. Spend some effort on finding the right one.
Here's a link to search Craigslist and eBay nationwide.

Here's a badass GMC on eBay that would be a great start.

Maybe make a deal on this one- a little rough but.....

Your C30 is one hell of a work truck. Don't destroy it trying to make it something it will never be. Appreciate it for what it is and get "the one" from somewhere else.

Re: 1964 C-30 dump

I thought about that to but i think i stole this truck? The guy that had it rebuilt the brakes and the lift cylinder then got mad cause the radiator started leaking and said 350.00 dollars and get it outta here, i wrote him a check and drove it home. Probably could sell it and probably maxe a nice down payment on a 4x4 i don't know.
