Installation trķangulated 4 link kit on cast iron axle ???
Hello guys,
hope to get some help here....... At the moment i am installing a triangulated 4 link kit..... According to the fact that the two upper bars should form an angle of 90 degree .....its necessary to get the upper bar brackets on the top of the axle diff housing. UNfortunately i have a chevy cast iron diff housing.....so i cannot weld the brackets directly on the housing... On the net i found a solution to build a bridge over it ..... Here a link where you can see a pic what i am talking about: http://www.streetsource.com/uploads/...130PM26281.jpg Do you think i will get any disadvantages with the bridge over the axle diff ?? Furthermore i should know if the diff housing should be in a 90 degree position during ride height.....or it should lean a bit forward about 2 degrees ?? Thanks for ur help CU AChim |

Re: Installation trķangulated 4 link kit on cast iron axle ???
Bridges over the center section are fine. Rock crawlers do it all the time.
http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/...ced190d0b8310d http://www.polyperformance.com/shop/...s-p-17172.html From what I recall from my reading, the upper links need only a minimum of 40 degrees in order to do a sufficient job of locating the rear axle. That may make your packaging a bit easier. |

Re: Installation trķangulated 4 link kit on cast iron axle ???
the 90 degrees that ACII is refering to is twice of 45 degrees which is close to what spankbomb mentioned at being 40 degrees. The upper bridge can work fine but the problem becomes clearance issues. What type of truck are you building? What type of axle? is it going to be low? are you going to cut the bed out or notch it? You also want to take into consideration what your instant center is going to be if you are able to mount the upper bars on a bridge above the axle.
I dont understand by your second question about the diff being mounted 90 degrees at ride height. Check out the suspension forum and use the search button, theres alot of info on there. Also in reference to that picture you posted, Twisted minis did that rear end and he can usually be found in the suspension area, send him a pm and Im sure he can give you his opinion. |

Re: Installation trķangulated 4 link kit on cast iron axle ???
I plan on bagging my '57 but don't know too much about building linked rear suspension. I'm planning on using the original rear-end from my '72 Chevelle and fabing the arms, unless it doesn't look like it would work out at all once I get it under the frame, or if I learn otherwise in my research.

thanks u guys for the quick informations...
fortunately i have enough space at the rear axle...so i can go the way with the axle truss. At the moment i am rebuilding my Chevy Pickup 51 With the 2 degrees leaning forward at right hight .....i mean that here : http://www.heidts.com/_uploaded_files/in-151.pdf Thanks Achim |
