Hello Everyone
Hi Everyone. I I've been browsing the board the last few weeks and wanted to introduce myself.
This past weekend I picked up a 65 GMC with a 305 chevy and th350. Needs some work but its not too bad. To start of my long list of questions: My rear end is off center and the leafs look kicked out a little. Is that common on these trucks? is it easy enough to lossen the bolts and straighten the spring pack? Thanks! Chris Last edited by Chris65GMC; 03-26-2010 at 08:27 AM. |

Re: Hello Everyone
I saw that truck on VA craigslist. Looked like a decent truck, you happy with it? From what I remember it was not too unreasonable.

I will try to take a picture of the springs next time i'm under the car. I'm looking for some rally wheels, any gm six lugs will work? I have a lead on a set of 82 blazer rallys, are they deep dish? What else looks chevy on my truck? anything other than the grille/hood and chrome by the windows? Thanks! Chris |

Re: Hello Everyone
Stay away from the NBS wheels for your 6 luggers, all others should work, but the new ones have some hub differences you would need machined down. I like the 6 spoke american racing inspired wheels they had and learned about this.

Re: Hello Everyone
Welcome aboard Chris from Kansas City, KS.
DPowers, here are some photos of the rear leaf springs on a '66, I recently sold. The leaf springs were specific to the GMC trucks and the coils/trailing arms were specific to the Chevy trucks in the 1/2 ton 2wd models or the era. Welcome back grumpy. Re: Hello Everyone
Welcome from Washington state. I like the shot with the racing discs, they used to be extremely popular but are hardly ever seen anymore. Long ago I had a leaf spring setup that didn't have enough clamps so the leaves shifted. I used a combination of a very large C clamp pressing sideways, along with a couple of whacks from a heavy hammer to put them back in alignment.

Re: Hello Everyone
Welcome to the forum Chris
Those 6 lug rallys from that '82 Blazer will fit just fine. That's what I run on my '66 Suburban.

Re: Hello Everyone
If the spring pack is just twisted apart, the factory spring clamps are either missing or in the wrong place to hold it in alignment. If the rear end is off center to one side in the truck, it could be the spring bolt is broken or missing. The axle perch can shift around if the bolt is absent. It could also be badly worn or bent rear shackles, or somebody did a swap or repair and welded the mounting pads incorrectly. It could be a bent frame, or just that the bed is not bolted down square to the cab, and makes it appear the axle is off center.
