rear end gearing

Do these markings mean that my rear axle is 3.63. Let me know if you do understand the markings. Thank you for the replies in advance.

Re: rear end gearing

I have never heard of 3:63 gear ratio. So I would have to guess no.

Re: rear end gearing

It appears you have a Dana 60 rear axle, as indicated on the attached link:

http://coloradok5.com/axleguide.shtml

The following link should help identify what to look for in identifying the gearset.

Re: rear end gearing

Those markings look like what a lot of wrecking yards use to mark their parts so they can keep track of them. So that means nothing as far as what gear ratio you have. The best way to determine that is to remove the rear cover and find the numbers stamped in the ring gear. There will be a pair of munbers that represent the number of teeth on the ring gear and the pinion gear. Divide the two and that is your gear ratio. IE: 41 10 = 4.10 and 41 11 = 3.73 and 39 11 = 3.54

If this rear end is under a 1/2 ton GMC, my guess would be that it's a Dana 44 which looks identical to a Dana 60, just smaller. There will be numbers in the casting below the cover and on one side or the other that identify whether it's a 44 or a 60.
