Ash Tray Door

Has anyone ever shaved an ash tray opening. I'm sick if the thing hanging down and I'm thinking of doing a little shave job. Know what I mean?

Re: Ash Tray Door

I did the springs in mine, and it was easy enough that I wouldn't know how to write a "how to" - you just "do it".

1) Take ash tray out

2) Install springs (qty 2)

3) Reinstall ash tray

The only trick with mine is that the springs were not readily available, so I used some '88 and up springs. They seemed to fit fine and have been working for about a year now.

Re: Ash Tray Door

i went to pick n pull and took a few out out there and put one of them back together out there also. If anything go to pick n pull tare one apart and put it back together before you do yours just to get the idea its not hard at all.

If you can't fix that, you need to sell the truck.

Re: Ash Tray Door

I have fixed everything else, lowered the truck, wired up all my guages, engine swap, almost everything except for that damn ashtray. Do you guys take the dash pad off? remove a/c ducts?

Re: Ash Tray Door

mine has all the ac and heater ducts. Heres what i did if i remeber correct i unbolted the two bolts from the bottom then pushed the bottom back towards the fire wall then spun the ash tray to the right so the top could fit threw the hole and pulled it right out.

Re: Ash Tray Door

On an AC truck it is a little difficult to get the thing out out of the dash, but if you hold your tongue right, whistle three times and blow your nose once, it will fit through there.

Re: Ash Tray Door

Yeah, you kinda push it back, lift up, turn it sideways, rotate 90*, then pull it out.

Re: Ash Tray Door

I pulled out the bottom first. I had to squeeze in on the sides a bit and it rolled out. I have the dash out and the a/c duct work is loose, so it isn't a problem. I stopped smoking years ago and dont want the nasty ash tray in the truck. I can smell the thing and it's sickening. I cant beleive I use to smell just like it.

Re: Ash Tray Door

what im going to do is weld an extension plate over the ash tray and lighter and bring it to the highest point that will still clear when opening and closing and mount my mini equalizer and my ipod in it. as of right now the ash tray holds my ipod and the lighter is disconnected no smoking in my truck and no cell phone chargers either.

Re: Ash Tray Door

What in the wide wide world of sports is that junk. What does LMC stand for? Love My Crap..... I wouldn't use that on a bicycle. Thanks for the input anyhow.

The ash tray springs, for an 88 - 94, are ClassicParts 28-9845 (LH) and 28-9846 (RH). They are $0.99 each.

And, these guys are right: if you hold your mouth right, twist, and squeeze it will come out of there...

Re: Ash Tray Door

im going to have to try to get it done this weekend. to be honest with you guys this is the one thing that has bothered me and not gotten fixed since i get the truck. I really hope i get to fix this this weekend. Will it work with just one spring or does it need both i think i have one of the springs.

Re: Ash Tray Door

It's really not that bad. Once you have the screws out, twist and turn until you get it lined up to come out. It's not that bad. Once you get it out it's pretty easy to see how the springs work. I had one where the springs weren't broke, they'd just popped out.

But on the removal, just keep in mind you don't have to force it or bend anything. And yes, both times I had to remove one for repair, both trucks were AC trucks.

No go show that ash-tray who's boss!

Re: Ash Tray Door

I found these in my nuts & bolts box i have in the garage are these the right springs, I dont know where else they would come from if not from my truck. I know i had one but im glad o found both I looked at classic parts but couldnt convince myself to spend 10 extra dollars for shipping on 2 $.99 cent pieces.
