Help, 700r4 crossmember, hand brake

Got the engine & 700r4 setting in the frame. Need to build crossmember for transmission and it needs to be that we retain the mechanism for the hand brake. I saw on here a while back that someone had something similar, just can't seem to find it. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Help, 700r4 crossmember, hand brake

I had the same issue, I installed a 4l60e which is the same as a 700r4, you wont be able to use it unless your real handy with metal fab. I am probably going to go the 66-72 method, all cable around the frame perimiter. If you get better info or a work around, please let me know, cuz I would rather use the stock instead.

Bowtie Overdrives sell a cross member with the emergency brake mechanism installed. Take a look:

Re: Help, 700r4 crossmember, hand brake

If I remember correctly I used a regular crossmember and used the original e-brake setup, I did this back in 2001. I will try to post some pictures showing what I did.

I took these in the dark, maybe you can tell what I did by looking at the bolt locations 1 or 2 of these may be upside down...

Re: Help, 700r4 crossmember, hand brake

Good info coming in! Brain is turning. Can't wait till morning to turn up some tunes and get to building. Got a couple ideas, we'll see what I can fab up. Got metal, welder, torch, and suds, something is bound to get fabed up!

Keep the ideas coming...

Re: Help, 700r4 crossmember, hand brake

Well, here's what I came up with. Should work great as it's in the same position as factory only 2" lower. It does not hang any lower than front crossmember, so I'm not too worried about ground clearance. Since I'm not lowering the truck a major amount it shouldn't be a problem.

Here is what I did to fab up a cross member with stock e-brake.
