Rust Rust Rust Where to Start?
These photographs are from the passenger side of my truck. Where do I start for repairs? Do I start inside and work my way out (cab floor, inner rocker, outer rocker then cab corner)? Or do I start with the cab corner and work my way in?
Also who sells that section of floor, I probably need both side and about the same sizes.

Re: Rust Rust Rust Where to Start?
id do your floor first its easier then u dont gotta worry about tearing up your new metal its also easier.. wes from classic heartbeat is a good guy and help ya get squared away thats where i got some of my metal from.. he has this piece that goes in from the door jam of the floor 4 inches in the floor which is also your inner rocker.. its $100+ a side but well worth it.. id do floor then the section of floor by your tank.. i just used a flat piece of metal and a hammer and clamps to do mine since nobody will really see it.. then do your cab corner and rocker and then your support.. it might be easier to do support first then corner but who knows check out my build thread in my signature i did a lot of rust repair and i got pics you can check out.. let me know if ya got any questions since i ran into a lot of situations on mine that i could probably help you with

Re: Rust Rust Rust Where to Start?
I have a '67 that is about in the same shape so I will be following your progress.
Since I have never done any rust repair I am going to start working on my '71 first because it is not really that bad. Hopefully doing the '71 will give me a chance to practice before I tackle the '67. Good luck and please keep us posted on your progress. Danny

Re: Rust Rust Rust Where to Start?
First thing I would do (and did do)...
Research in the Projects and Builds Section of the 67-72 forum. That can provide valuable insight into how these trucks are put together and how to fix the rust. That is free, but will take some time to find the right posts to answer your questions and see pix on how to do it. I spent weeks looking at the site taking notes on how stuff was replaced/repaired, etc. More direct route - www.ebfabman.com - the videos show in detail how to fix what you are looking at on your truck [and any other 67-72 truck for that matter]. It may cost you some $ - but it will show you step by step what to do, the order, how to approach the fix, etc. Well worth it. Where to find the patch panels - I would look for the closest place to you since shipping the metal you will need - will add up quick. Good luck! |

Re: Rust Rust Rust Where to Start?
Thanks guys, I've thought about efabman's videos, that would be a $100 well spent. I'll go through the thread that red69 posted. I'll also update this thread as I go along. I plan to continue to remove rusted material to get an idea what additional sheet metal I need. I already have the inner/outer rocker panels, cab corners, and the rear floor support. I was going to just use flat sheet metal to repair the floor. I agree with tim, nobody is going to see it. I am concerned about it being structurally sound since the seatbelt is bolted right next to the hole. I am in the process of sandblasting the rear frame and relocating the gas tank. As soon as the gas tank comes out of the cab I'll start in on this.

Just bought the above mentioned piece from Wes for the drivers side of my truck today. Can't wait to get it.
