I want to replace my springs. Are bags the way to go or lowered coils????
The springs on my 71 have been heated in the past. Then someone put some of those coil spring twist in boosters in to try and get it driveable. I want the truck to set low and level. Should I go with a lowered spring or bags? I know a dealer for the bags and can get them @ cost. Is the end result worth the time and money? How much better will the ride be(night and day diffrance)? If I set the bags up on a indepent 4 coner system will this help with body roll?
Sorry for all the diffrent ? but I know you guys aways have the answers to them.

What's neat about the bags is that you set up your driving height to your preference, then when you get in to a "cruise" parking lot, you can release the air and lower your truck down to the bumper stop and still drive slowly in the parking lot. If you can get the bags at cost and install them yourself, that's the way to go.

at cost!
definitely go for the bags. full control over ride height. get an alignment done at the air setting you want to drive in. sways bars are the only thing that's gonna help your body roll. another question for you would be: are you going to keep the leaf springs or replace them with 4 link? if you don't do much hauling, the 4 link would be the way to go. much better traction and improved handling. good luck! |

My 71 has a rear swing arm, and i will be deffintly keeping it. Could use some new bushings though. I have a sway bar off of a 78 burb, just never have taken the time to put it on. Ya cost is great. I work for Freightliner so i have acc to all kinds of lines and fittings. Another guy there used to have an aligment and suspention shop, he still deals in air bags, lift kits, and lowering kits etc. It pays to know people. Also know the guy who runs to custom wheel and tire shop in town. Working on getting him down to cost!!! LOL

It's all personal preferance! But I see more people buy a small (2"- 3") drop kit just to turn arround and buy a 4"or 5" drop after they get used to it. Then tey usually want to go lower, and then you get hassled by the police, and so on, and so on.... Or is that just me!!!
Sorry just going on about nothing... I like the bags, you go as low as you want, rides great, and if you can, try to drive with more than an inch of ground clearence, and you shouldn't get hassled..... If you know someone with bags installed on their ride, just go for a drive and decide for yourself, and not what anyone else says.... Sorry for the novel, and hope it helps you out!!! P.S. the sway bars make one hell of a difference!!!!

with the bags dumped, how low will a stock truck(no drop spindles or c notching or body drop)set on the bump stops?

Your front control arms/crossmember would maybe be 2-4" off of the ground.
That's just a guess though, not sure on the rear, I would think that it would be lower in the front, all in all it would be pretty low, and look damn good!!

Well I work in a truck shop also and just finished putting a kit togeather from compress, bags, lines, fitting and valves and gauges also switchs and I have less than 650.00 in the kit its all name brand stuff also not cheapo crap but if you want to sit it on the ground you are going to have to get drop spindels and a c-notch, Thats really the only way to lay it out with out a body drop. Later B. oh yeah if anybody needs valves let me know I am talking to the company we get them from threw work and I will be able to get 3/8 valves for around 30-35 bucks they are parker valves I should find out the total price this week or next week so let me know if anybody wants some. also can get 1/2 and 5/8 valves just have to find out cost.later B.

With 4-way control, you really shouldn't need a sway bar. I found that 4-way without a sway bar handled about the same as 2-way control with a sway bar. 4-way with a sway bar seemed too stiff for my taste.

FYI.
There is an article in the latest issue of Custom Classic Trucks that have a neet kit to bag the rear of a 67-72. It also uses a longer panhard bar to reduce the side to side axel movement to a minimum. Last edited by DennyB; 02-12-2003 at 09:14 PM. |

Wow Dropped67step 650. for quality stuff I guess I dont know the right pepole or my truck would be bagged. I am one ogf those pepole who did a 2 4 drop now im ready for more go for it the first time it will save you money.
