Post 454 in the 76, neat...

Was playing around with the VIN #'s of the 76, 78, and 81 trudcks, and I found out that the 76 C-20 had a 454 originallly, has a VIN engine code of "S"....
So it was a 454/auto/3.73 locking truck, not bad at all, mabe I shouldnt have cut the truck up, hmmm.....too late now...

Have a question about a discrepancy of the 81 C-20 VIN #......

It starts out as 1GCFC24....
F= GVRW range of 7001-8000 hydraulic brake...
how can this be ??

just thought I'd post......

Oh, and while I am here, who makes front lift springs for the 81-up 2wd trucks, and what height increments do they come in ??

No discrepancy:
You have a "light duty" C-20. This is the base 3/4 ton truck availble. The heavy duty 3/4 tons have a 8600GVW, the light duty ones have around a 7800(?) GVW.

Yeah, the '81 is super light, definitely, only has a 9.5" rear axle, but has some brake option, stops damn good, loaded or not....
The '78 Big-10 out-hauled this C-20... has same number of factory leaves as the 10 had...

The '76 was way heavier(10.5" rear), but only 3.73 geared, so hmm.....

Trucks can be built oddly.....

The 9.5" - 14 bolt rear end is by no means weak. They are used right up to the 1 ton 4x4's. I drive a '88 K-3500 everyday with one. No problems at all.

I consider this 9.5" very weak, it is the lightest used in the '80s trucks, the 10.5" 14 bolt I have laying outside makes this 9.5" 14-bolt look like a puny 7.5" 10-bolt axle, in comparison.

Only 11 posts a day, wtf ???
I make at least 20 a day, if not more, hmmm....

Trust me, I still get lots done everyday, been getting a lot of work done here, just got done finishing up the manual steering conversion on the 81, and I think I'm gonna mess around with one of the Caprices, and got to go get a F150, etc.... Clean out the back of the 81(gravel).
Call around and find someone to take these beds, and this cab laying out here, etc...

March 30 is pretty much my 1rst year anniv here, actually its about the 15th, but I never got to register really, until the 30th.

Thanks
