thinking about this one WIW

it's a 73-77 ( the owner is not sure of the year) model long bed with supposedly a 350 v8 and auto tranny. the topper doesn't come with it. what do ya'll think it's worth? it's supposed to run. i trying to decide if i wanna go look at it. my budget is around $900. it's hard to find something that cheap round here. after i get some opinions i'll tell ya'll what he wants for it.

Re: thinking about this one WIW

if it runs solid, it'd be worth probably about $1000 - $1500 around here...

Re: thinking about this one WIW

It looks to be a 73, judging from the grille and dash bezel. $1000 would be fair, if it runs well enough.

Re: thinking about this one WIW

$800-$1000 if it runs well and shifts out like it should and most importantly, you want it. More like $500 if you want to possibly turn a profit. People don't seem to realize car scrap is $.08-0.09/lb when they say $200 or charge him to haul it off. Straight to the scales that truck is $300 or better.

'73-'74 had that grill. '73 didn't have rain gutters above the door so I would say a '73.

Re: thinking about this one WIW

its most likely a 1973.is it worth 1200 dollars-two words come to mind-ABSOLUTELY NOT out here in arizona thats maybe a 5-600 dollar truck 700 if your lucky.2 months ago i bought a 78 longbed truck for 700 dollars that is straight and totally rust free.this truck has alot of surface rust and what looks like the onset of rust damage to the lower fenders, doors and along the back of the cab right above the cab corners.if it runs and everything is in good working order then maybe 700 but i wouldnt offer more than that.ill throw in a pic of my new 78 to give you an idea of what 700 dollars can oitentially get you if you look right and in my case was in the right place at the right time ready to wheel and deal.i found this particular truck on craigslist.

Re: thinking about this one WIW

I did not see any rust except for surface rust but if it has been sitting for years I would not want to pay more than $500.00. MO But I would go and look at it.

Re: thinking about this one WIW

yeah down here in alabama they are hard to come by. i just looked at another one who's asking 750 it's a longbed. the brakes seemed weird? as i stepped on them they would slowly leak down? it smells like gas really strong. maybe running rich?

I say $500-$800 if the registration is current and it runs. You'd be amazed at what a bottle of TR-3 can do to an old paintjob like that

Re: thinking about this one WIW

What do comparable trucks go for locally?
In my case, my sig is correct. I bought the plow, PO didn't want the hassle of removing it from the truck (hence the price cut).

Up here, a general rule I've gone by for years is: 500.00 runs, drives, and current inspection sticker. (road legal sometime within the past 8 mos. Sticker's are good for a year here.) IMO, if it's been sitting, there is a reason.

Approach it as a "vehicle", not a '73 square. In the end, it's your checkbook.
Last week, a local guy offered my 700.00 for my truck. I politely informed him that I had over 800 just in the new transmission, not counting 500 in tires, (or the rest.)

I'd say $700 +/- $100 and that's only if runs decently.

Re: thinking about this one WIW

And remember, When someone sees a stack of $100 bills, the price they are willing to take gets a lot closer to what you are willing to pay.

Re: thinking about this one WIW

yeah the problem is these trucks i keep finding are all a pretty good drive away. i enjoy driving but i hate wasting gas at the price you pay per gallon now. i wish i could find something closer so i'll just have to keep checking craigslist.

Re: thinking about this one WIW

i'd hate to drive 50 miles to have him say no to a lowball offer. i also really don't think i want a longbed, that's probably half the problem. i would settle for a 67-72 longbed or a 67-87 longbed if it was 4wd, but with a budget of $900 those are hard to find.

Re: thinking about this one WIW

With your budget, I'd say a running short bed truck is not in your future. Good luck finding what you want and keep saving up your money. No matter what you buy you'll either need more money to purchase it or more money to fix it once you have it.

Re: thinking about this one WIW

If you don't want a longbed 2wd then don't mess with looking at it. I know it can get frustrating but buying something you don't want just because it is in your budget is a terrible decision. Wait and build up a larger budget or just keep looking. I would say you might find a 4wd or swb in your budget if you look enough.

Re: thinking about this one WIW

I guess it really depends what part of the country you are from. People say that truck isn't worth 200. I would've given 200 just for that 73-78 hood a couple of months ago when I was looking for one. That truck looks pretty rust free in the photos, in the northeast it's hard to find a truck in that condition. I don't think I would pay 1200 but I'm pretty sure I could part it out for more than 1200.
