Old door question, diffs between 69-71 and 72
Searched and looked and still am not sure here. Thought that 67-71 doors were the same, only made a change in 72. The K5 doors from 69-71 are the same, a change in 72. From what I can tell the difference is the dimple for the screw below the vent window which makes the door stouter. Also the inner door panels are different on the 72, with the window and door handle mounting points being longer to go through the 72 style panels. Got my K5 out and going over it saw this. Just wondering what I need for inner door panels and etc.

You might check in a LMC book I believe they have some color pics and you can see the difference there.

Re: Old door question, diffs between 69-71 and 72
Thank's. I guess what I was looking for was from my pic's are my doors 69-71, or 72?. Have seen LMC and more, just want to make sure what I have here to begin with. These doors have some issues and I might be looking for a new set. Just trying to educate myself on this before I decide.

The only difference I found was that little screw in the middle of the vent window......I chopped a PU door and turned it into one recently.......

So, by looking at my pic's, I have 72 doors on my 1970 K5, right? Not a problem here but just need to clarify.

I know the vent screw is one telltale, but not sure if it was limited to 72 only. I know my 71 p'up doesn't have the vent screw and neither does the 69 K5.

Re: Old door question, diffs between 69-71 and 72
I thought it was more in the height of the window crank stem...sticks further out equals problems with the door panel. So as long as you stay with the correct year hardware (window regulators and such), door panels ya should be good to go

Re: Old door question, diffs between 69-71 and 72
Thank's longblock. That's what I was looking for, to make sure. Alway's thought my doors were stock-1970- but really want to know for sure before I buy up some internal parts. Anybody else?

Re: Old door question, diffs between 69-71 and 72
Trying to remember back when I stripped the inner door panels off years ago. I swear they had the 67-71 black scroll type on them. Let me walk through this- so if I want to run the 67-71 metal door panels, I'm going to make sure I run 67-71 internal parts so all the window and door handle mounts line up right on the panels? Wow, I just answered my own question didn't I? Gonna need new internals and just want the right stuff, any input?

Re: Old door question, diffs between 69-71 and 72
Think I have it figured out-(last post), but just not convinced these are 72 doors? Of course I wouldn't be to surprised, it also had a GMC tailgate on it when I bought it. Didn't think much of it back in "81", but that was when K5 was only 11 years old! Just looking at inner door panels and stuff, and want to set it up right! Any help, pic's? I threw so much of the original used stuff away early on I could kick my self now!

Re: Old door question, diffs between 69-71 and 72
They look like 69-71 doors to me. 72 doors have a dimple at the wing window reinforcement. 69-71 doors have the plastic piece with the screw for the wing window.

Re: Old door question, diffs between 69-71 and 72
Steven B, I believe you are right. The screw mounts on mine are not dimples, they're bumps. Anybody got good pic's of the dimple? Burt, thank's for the pic's! I can tell that your doors have the 72 panels, thank's guy's!

Re: Old door question, diffs between 69-71 and 72
ohhhh ok........you have a plug and not the dimple where the screw goes in........ I guess I didn't look close enough in the pic.... 72's have a dimple...a countersink and a screw for reinforcement of the vent...... you have the plug....that is 69-70-71 I believe..... I think they were all the same......the internals should be also...
