Restoration questions
Alright i will start out with saying this is my first restoration and I'm 19. I have a 1972 chevy k20 350. i just want to see if anyone else has tackled these projects. i want to switch my th 350 over to the 700 r4, so can i reuse the stock crossmember or do i need to buy a certain one? also does anyone know where to find a column shifter that would have PRND321? or should i just go without first gear selection? thanks for any input.

Re: Restoration questions
You can use the same crossmember. You'll just have to move it back a bit and drill some holes in the frame to bolt it up. I just did this on my truck last night.

Re: Restoration questions
Haven't gotten to the shifter linkage yet, but you will probably also have to shorten the drive shaft. I did anyway.

Re: Restoration questions
If you switch to a 2004R instead, you won't need to change driveshafts. The stock crossmember will need to be slid back a couple of inches.

Re: Restoration questions

Re: Restoration questions
i did that swap in my 72 blazer.. tanny is 2 1/2 inches longer i believe and i ended up going with a b&m shifter. i just took the shifter off the column. but a year later and im putting in a flaming river tilt floor shift column.. well its ordered.. another week and it should be here.

Re: Restoration questions
Does a 700R4 require a trans cooler?
