Power Drum Brakes?
I had a power booster on my 69 when I tore it apart and now I am using a frame that has drum brakes all around that I rebuilt. The question is there is a proportioning valve under my drum brake master cylinder so could I attach the power unit to the drum brake master cylinder to create power drum brakes? Has anyone done this? If so please let me know how they work.
Thanks, JRBECK64 |

Re: Power Drum Brakes?
YES YOU CAN & YES I HAVE. 69s HAD DRUM BRAKES ALL AROUND ALSO. THE P/B BOOSTER & PROP. VALVE PERFORM TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT FUNTIONS & WORK IDEPENDANTLY OF EACH OTHER. JOHN (I THINK THATS WHAT YOU ARE ASKING)

Re: Power Drum Brakes?
I converted my 69 to power brakes many years ago and never had an issue. I used all of the components including the prop. valve from the donor truck.
I converted my 68 GMC but I used the combination valve that it had. I was constantly getting rear wheel lockup and scaring everyone with the screeching brake sound so I converted back to manual brakes. You can purchase an adjustable proportioning valve if you encounter this problem. forgot to include this: http://www.chevyhiperformance.com/te...lve/index.html Last edited by 68gmsee; 05-19-2010 at 09:45 AM. |

Re: Power Drum Brakes?
I have power drums on my 67 and they work great. Right now she is pulling to the left when you apply them, I have not investigated this yet.
