Question Tires (looking for cool tread)

I will have to buy some new tires in a few months so I have been looking around this morning trying to find some I like. I would like to have some with a nice tread on them. Here is a few I like so far. Anyone have any links I could check that may help may choose. Thanks.

I currently run 295/50R15's on 15x8 wheels. Also, I like the white letters facing out, so that needs to look pretty good too, nothing chessy there! One last thing. Im trying to keep the cost down to $100.00 per tire, I would pay a little more if I really like them.

BFGoodrich Radial T/A

The above tire is nice and my number one choice so far, but I would really like to have something with a cooler tread on them, liek the Goodyears below.

I like most the tires here, but not made for my size, and alot of $$$:

I just bought Yokohama Avid S/T 255/6015 & 275/60/15 and they out rate the TA'S big time and also have a better looking tread pattern. You can go to tirerack.com and check them out. I bought mine from Summit racing for less than 300.00 bucks to my door.

Hope this helps

I love my Kumho ECSTA's but they don't go as big as the BFG's.

I doubt it would be in the $100 price range, but a couple months ago I saw some tires that had a flame tread pattern. Also obviously just for show trucks, but still cool. I'll try to find a picture of them.

the 295 - 50's are going to be a short sidewall , I'd try to stay with a 60 series tire so your wheelwell stays as full as you can get it.

I had 295/50s from BFG on my truck for a while. It looked just right to me. Problem was trying to find shops around Tulsa that carried them without special ordering. I think the last pair I bought cost me around $400. Seems like they may be more available now. The other problem was the BFG Performance TA tires didn't hold up to daily driving for crap. The traction was awesome but they wore down too quick for my wallet.
I switched to Continentals, 275/50, I can get a pair for about $200 and they last a lot longer.

I have some 295/50r15 Pacemarks on now that I bought from Big-O, these tires seem to last very well and hold up good to nails/screws, which I have alot of problems with (no i dont drive in the gutter).

I couldnt tell you for sure, but I would bet they do.

58: I will think about those.

I ran across some tires called "revenger", they had a crazy back and forth type flow to the tread, I liked it. The picture was in adobe acrobat, so I cant post it.

Eddie, when I was looking for tires G suggested COOPER brand tires. While I dont think I got the super nice ones like hes running, I am still EXTREMLY pleased with them so far. For my special order 255/60/15's it cost me like $75 a piece. When I used to buy a new 275/60/15 BF goodwrench for my 78 once a month it was running me like $100-110 a piece. Ill never touch of BF radial again if I can help it.

We just bought some really nice Nitto Extreme Force 404 tires for the Tahoe - they were DEFINITLY NOT $100. They have a cool tread pattern. It looks much better in person!

A good way to see all the different tread patterns available is to go to www.superbuytires.com and browse all the tires. Good luck, I know what you are going through.....just bought some BFGoodrich T/A G-Force KDW2 and they were big $$$ but have a wicked tread!

Great link Airmale, thanks!
Alot of awesome tires all in my price range. Damn what to pick what to pick ........ best tire link yet!

Can someone post the link to the site that tells you tire info in inches? I think Swervin posted one time and it was a Mazda site or something.

Whats treadwear, is that how long they will last?
How is this done, by miles?

i agree with whybynu. the yoko avid s/t's are a comparable tire to the bfg radial t'a's but they have a cooler looking tread pattern. i haven't run them, but i think i will next time i by some for my 15's.

the best place to get inch measurements is to look on the manufacturers website. they usually have a .pdf with all the specs on them. the distributors usually don't have all the info on their sites.

I would not put BFs on my truck. They don't last very long.

I have these on my truck.

Found here. I only have the on the back. Soon they'll be on the front too. 2 years with them and I'm happy. Very nice on dry weather. Rain is something less than desirable but happens with any wide tire.

In reference to "Tread Wear": Most all-season tires made are rated for tread wear and are marked with the rating on the sidewall. The higher the number the harder the compound and the longer they'll last you. I was able to get 60'000 miles out of a the set of Michelin XW4's that came originally on my full size Dodge Conversion Van before I started feeling uncomfortable about driving in heavy rain with them. They had a 400 Tread Wear Rating. I put the same make and type of tire back on when I replaced them last year. I've also had BFG Radial TA's on two different cars that I think had a 230 Tread Wear Rating.
Both of them sets looked alot like Slicks by the time 10,000-12,000 miles came around.

You should check around places like Pep Boys, National Tire and Battery (NTB) and even A Warehouse Club if you have them in your area. They carry all the big "Name Brands" but sometimes they also carry off brands that you can get much cheaper and will last you a lot longer.

I agree on the Nittio's.

http://www.nittotire.com/main.asp

I'm running Nitto NT-450's, 255/50R17's. They are a real nice tire, with a ton of tread.

eddie, the yoko's do have white letters sorta. the letters on them are a raised outline that is white. its not a fully colored in letter like the bfg's. just the out line of the letter is white.

you guys are recomending some nice tires like the nittos and kumhos, just like p-zeros (pirelli) and pilot sports (michelin) but they don't make them in the size he is looking for.

the bfg's have a 400 treadware rating.

firestone firehawk ss20's

thats what i have and i like them lots.

i'm gonna get some new ones when i replace my wide ones now.

they make some 295/50/15's

i know the tread design isnt greatest looking, but they didnt give me any problems in rain or in the dry traction wise until i did a couple burnouts, which these tires like to do
