What to look for when buying 67-72s
I'm thinking about buying a 67 GMC from long distance. What should I ask about that is specific to these years? (I know the hot spots in the 73-87s.)
I'll be asking about the harness, transmission type, interior, and so on. Asking $2,500. Solid truck. Lousy paint. Extra parts. (I haven't seen it or talked to the seller yet, that was my Dad's description.) Thanks-

cab supports and inner rockers can be a pain to replace..cab corners and above the rear tires also ...check the rad support under the battery and inner fenders that seem to be the common areas...

Re: What to look for when buying 67-72s
Those are all easy and common repairs.. Ask about the drip rails and the inside of firewall, just where the drain holes are on bottom of windsheild.
Of course the less amount of rust the better, but I 100% guarantee that that most truck have rust. I would find the best optioned, newest parts and well of course the least amount of work truck and go for it. I will probably never buy a freshely painted truck again, been burned twice now. Re: What to look for when buying 67-72s
MECHANICAL STUFF CAN BE REPLACED, REPAIRED OR UPGRADED FAIRLY EASILY ON THESE OLD TRUCKS. WHAT I MEEN IS.. THEY'RE NOT COMPLICATED. RUST IS AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT ISSUE. FRESH PAINT HIDES ALOT. BEWARE OF PRIMER!! ALOT OF PEOPLE SELLING OLD VEHICALS CLAIM THEM TO BE RUST FREE, WHEN THEY HAVE BEEN PATCHED UP & REPAIRED. I USSUALLY ASK IF IT'S EVER HAD ANY RUST OR BEEN WRECKED. I'D MUCH RATHER HAVE OLD WORN OUT FACTORY PAINT THAN A NEW SHINEY PAINT JOB. I ALWAYS CONSIDER PAINT AS TEMPORARY ANYWAY. I BOUGHT SOME GOOD GUNS & LEARNED TO PAINT MYSELF. IT'S NOT TOUGH IF YOU USE GOOD MATERIALS. IF YOU TRY TO CUT CORNERS WITH EL-CHEAPO STUFF.. THATS HOW YOUR PAINT JOB WILL COME OUT. JOHN

Re: What to look for when buying 67-72s
That's great advice.
I just talked to the seller. It was in a flood 2 years ago, and he wants to sell it before it goes too far; it's just starting to get surface rust. I wrote earlier that it has extra parts but was wrong. I thought there were 3 trannys. It's 3 on the tree. Originally a big 6 (as I suspected), "redone" several years ago, 3.73 posi rear, that's been dry for 2 years. Spidey sense is tingling. Custom trim level, painted grille, painted step bumper. NO beer dents. Leaf rear, 6 lug. (Heavy half?) Short fleet, bed looks good, engine bay clean, some door rust at bottom. Will need paint. Thoughts about price?
