Chilton
I am taking the engine and trans out of a 75 suburban. The chilton manual says the chevy recomends removing the engine and trans as one unit. Which way is easiest? Engine and trans together or apart?

Re: Chilton
I always pull them together if I have enough room. It's hard separating the transmission from the engine under the truck, and even harder getting them back together.

Re: Chilton
Removing the front clip, in one piece, and replacing it in one piece is another thing you might consider when transplanting a motor/tranny into a '60-'66 Chevy/GMC truck.

Re: Chilton
I put a 350 with a 350turbo trans in my wife's 64 and just opened the hood as much as I could. had to take out radiator and go slow but it worked for me.

Re: Chilton
I've done it both ways, and if you can get the engine/trans out it one piece it's a lot less work. It really helps if you invest in (or rent) one of the crank operated engine tilting slings. They allow you to dramatically change the angle of the engine/trans as you move through the range of extraction.
