Town Car 9"
I was wondering....
Lincoln Town Cars from '89 to '97 seem to have a nice rear-end setup. They have a drum parking brake, rear disc brakes, and an attachment point for air bags (I'm assuming an easy mod to coils or leaves). Is this rear-end one of the "fabled" 9" variety? Anyway, I thought I'd mention it and ask for your thoughts.

i'm pretty sure it's an 8.8 inch rear. If i'm not mistaken it should be the same rearend as mustang or lincoln mark VII.

Yeah, I agree with Hotrod. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe it is the 8.8". I think they switched over to the 8.8 in the mid-eighties.

Its a 28 spline 8.8 inch. Good enough rear end in its own right. My brother has one under his 68 cougar with a 390/C6 . Holds up just fine. If your'e talking about bagging it your probably not going to be running any real power through it anyway so it will handle the load.

The 8.8 rear will handle a beating unless you're pushing a bunch of power and launching on slicks.
