This aint right

Alright, so tonight we wer putting new headers on my truck and noticed that the solinoid housing had a small crack and we remeberd we bought a gm starter at a swap meet. so when we went to line it up, um, we cant due to the fact that the gear is shielded by the cast iron cone, on the wrong side. and it is impossible to install in any way. It's a delco remy- 1108430 date code oc317. So um what the hell is it for?
Thanks,
Cole

Re: This aint right

Not right this second, but imagine a gm starter, that has the starter gear opening on the wrong side.

Re: This aint right

that number does not match a reverse cone starter I just crossed the number in my parts book and it comes up to a standard 70 and 80s 305, 350 starter. Are you sure someone hasnt changed the coan for a marine apoplication or something

Re: This aint right

Pontiacs and Olds were both on driver side. I think the Buicks and Cadillacs were as well. You could just take the solenoid and swap it out since they are the same. ...Joe

Buick is the same as Chevy. I've swapped starters between my Skylark & Chevelle.

You can swap the gear cover mounting section from your starter onto the new GM starter to change its configuration and have an almost new starter.
