Does anyone know who makes the WalMart house brand of motor oil...and is it any good? It goes by the brand name of super tech?

I have it on good authority that Quaker State makes this oil for WalMart....kinda figures since they push QS when you take your vehicle in for an oil change. You'd think they'd use their store brand, but they're smart enough to know that people would just ask for something else, anyway.

Yeah, it's good for starting brush fires! Buy Castrol!! I have seen the insides of motors using Quaker State And Pennzoil UUUUUgly They looked like someone dumped coffee grounds into the motors, seen very few make it over 100,000. Then using Castrol the insides looked much cleaner with hardly any sludge or deposits, It's the only kind I ever use. I owned a Nissan with 204,000 and it was still going strong and have several friends that have over 100,000 on theirs and no problems, Also my wife's car has 134,000 on it with no problems!!!

i use valvoline in my crapalier and havoline in my truck. i think im switching to valvoline for my truck tho.

The reason is not the oil, it's the driving and oil change conditions. When driving consists primarily of only short trips the water doesn't get boiled out of the oil and forms brown sludge. This type of driving demands far more frequent oil changes, and the general public doesn't understand this. This is where I recommend oil changes every two months, and a drive down the highway every weekend. I've had several of my own vehicles and have used Pennzoil in them with no sludge buildup. Change the oil every 5,000 miles or six months, whichever comes first. But my vehicles rarely see a day of driving without the oil temp being high enough to boil water. My point is don't blame the oil for the operator's negligence or ignorance.

The I've found is Shell Rotella, you can buy it at Wal Mart, It's made for diesels, but works great in gas motors. We tore down a 250,000 motor that used Rotella for most of those miles and it looked brand new. The reason we tore the motor down was because it blew a rad and warped the head.

Good Maintenance is the key word here. Use a quality brand name oil and filter along with good maintenance and you'll see that 100,000 + miles. I personally use Valvoline and change oil and filter at 3000. I work for a major oil Co and blend oils daily from components, belieave me oil is not oil

stand back...another oil debate!

All of you oil experts, back me up on this:

Pennsylvania oils (Quaker State, Pennzoil) are "parafin" based and are notorious sludge builders if not kept on a strict maintenance schedule.

Texas oils (Castrol, Havoline, Kendall) are "asphalt" based and tend to be much cleaner but break down a little quicker. They too must be kept to a strict maintenance schedule.

As for me, synthetic all the way. I figure, the entire engine is "synthetic", why put fermented mud in it?

Mobil-1 10W-30 for both of my BB's.

That's a new one on me! I certainly don't claim to be one of the wisemen, but the Pennsylvania vs Texas oil thing is new info for me! Interesting! Might have to reconsider my oil choices.

Changed every 2500 miles.
205,000 miles on the '93 now, and clean as a whistle.

where i work weve seen 3 engines that were regualry maintained and looked after but used walmart oil and all of them seized use the walmart oil in the kitchen for fryin or somethin

Mobil1 in both my rigs. 135K on the Trooper before it ended up upside down at 9300RPM

and still strong. After I rebuilt it, I lost the oil press line and pumped it dry. put the 1qt I had in her and ran to the store. That engine was still running strong after 50K of that kind of treatment when I pulled it to fit the SBC. I'm sold.
