New rear leafsprings

I have a 1953 1/2 ton short bed. What are you guys doing for rear leafsprings? I am using a Chevy 10 bolt and stock springs now, but would like to swap the rear spring. Are there springs that are from a newer vehicle, or using an aftermarket kit? Thanks.

Re: New rear leafsprings

I have a 49 GMC and I bought a kit from Macgyvers Rod & Custom http://rodandcustom.ca/ that included everything from shackles, u bolts, springs, shocks that mounts to the original holes int he chassis. I bought it from them as they are cheaper than trying to get something to me from the US as I am in Canada. My other option was a company called Standens, but they only make the springs...no kit. http://www.standens.com/

Re: New rear leafsprings

I replaced my stock springs with a set from Posies. They bolt right in to the original mounts and lower the ride height about 4 inches. They also provide a great ride quality. It is one of the best bang for the buck mods I have made to my 54. They have two versions. The 440 keeps the wheel in the stock location in the fender while the 440A moves the axle centerline back 3 inches to center it in the fender. The cost was about $360 but well worth it IMO.
