Has this happend to anyone with in cab tank?

My fuel gauge has been acting up, it's peged at full constantly. So I filled the tank last night before I got home because I wasn't sure how much gas I had.

This afternoon I go out to the truck and notice an oil spot on the pavement near the fuel tank filler. Without thinking I removed the cap and a bunch of fuel gushed out.

I'm thinking that filling it with the cool gas, the heat in the cab caused the fuel to expand and it had nowhere to go but out the filler.

Anyone had this happen before? I've filled the tank many times but I usually drove it for a while afterward. I guess it's just one of those gotchas with the in cab tank.

you have a bad vent system in your gas tank. i bet if you drive around for awhile and when you come to a stop if you take the cap off you'll hear a whooshing sound every time. that means you either need the proper gascap or 71-72 you have a plugged vent hose

I don't think it's a bad vent system. I've never heard the whooshing sound when I removed the cap before filling it.
When I took it off today, the gas tank was literally too full. It looked like the gas came out because the amount of gas in the tank was higher than the bottom of the filler edge.

Mine has done the same. If I fill it on a hot day, then don't drive it enough, the gas expands and overflows. Never knew a good solution, except don't fill on hot days, or make sure I am going to drive for awhile. I have an aftermarket locking cap on mine. Doesn't have a great seal, so I know it definitely can vent from there. Where would the factory vent be located? Would that make a difference?

Same thing happened to me last Summer. Filled the tank, drove home & went inside for a few hours. Came out to gas leaking on the driveway. And it screwed up the paint below the filler cap. Solution is to not fill it up all the way on a hot day. And yes the vent system works.

look to see if your truck was leaning to the drivers side in that parking spot.
Had that happen WAY more than heat expanding the fuel.

Yep, Me too.... If there's a full tank, it's gotta be sitting level or leaning
to the passenger side.
