My old ram air set up would fit under a stock hood and I used a 5 inch air cleaner too. When I put my supercharger on with the ram air set up then it wouldn't fit with a cowl hood. To make it easier and cheaper you can get ram air with a stock hood and be more of a sleeper.

KRAZY TEXAN
Just put a cowl hood on my 86, and I have been looking for a ram air breather setup. Could you email me any information on the setup you have, or let me know what magazine you got your info. from? Sounds like I'm not the only one interested!
Thnaks!!!!

Chaptr2,
Wouldn't putting ram air on a supercharged engine be a waste of time anyways? Other that putting colder air into it from outside the engine bay. I have a GTP and some guys are putting on ram air hoods and such, but I don't think you would gain much if anything. Even on my '70 GS455 the ram air is just a gimmick. Guys that race them actually remove the ram air and run a regular air cleaner. Just some thoughts..... Brian

Who’s to say it is a waste of time? See I put a ram air box on when the truck was naturally aspirated. With the added air I noticed that my little 600-cfm carb was too small then I added a 750 and all was perfect. It did work and gave me noticeable differences in the top end of the rpm range. Then I build the 388 stroker and put a supercharger on that. Sure the supercharger defeated the purpose of forced air from the ram air box, but it didn’t deplete the purpose of getting cold air.
I guess if you feel cold air is waste of time then that’s your opinion. I feel if someone wants to put a ram air hood or box on his or her car then so be it. Maybe I wasn’t clear about my situation. I don’t have the ram air box on now because it wouldn’t fit under the cowl hood. I then sold it. I now have my air cleaner tucked up in my cowl to get some of the cold air from that. The reason I responded to this post in the first placed was to let krazy_texan know that he doesn’t have to get a cowl hood to use a ram air box.
