Mph?

OK

My truck 82 short box 4x4 has a 4" lift with 33"s tires. When i drive it never shows the correct speed. The needle just jumps all over the place. Is there anyway to fix it? So it shows the correct speed. Besides disconnecting it compleatly.

Thanks
Jason

We discoused this a while ago. Either the cable isent connecting fully, or the drive/driven gears in the trans are bad.

Mine did the same thing, when it was steady it read 10mph faster then I was going. Now with the new tranny it dosent jump anymore, but still reads 10mph over

do you happen to have cruise control on it? mine did this as well, ended up the cruise control box on driver side inner fender was bad. eliminated it and went with one piece speedo cable.

Do you have a Stereo in there. Mine jumps all over the place also but only when my stereo is turned up loud. But my speedo is also off i think it may also have to do with the tires. I know you can get them calibrated but im not sure if that what it needs or not.

Yes it has cruise. Might have to try that idea of getting rid of the cruise. It dosent work any way. As far as the stereo i cant see that as the problem but will try anyting.

Thanks

my cruise didnt work either.. if you take it out, you are going to have to replace the speedo cable, so if the cable is damaged elsewhere you will fix it anyway.

it will be off because of your tires, even when you get the jump fixed...just so you know.

Smokinn,

When I lifted my 85 Suburban it did the same thing. I yanked out the cruise control and everything was fine. But you might want to make sure the speedometer cable is tightened on the dash and on your transmission first that might fix it. (takes about 5 min.)Also like C-10Scotty said it will always be off because of the larger tires.
