Dana 44-1 id

Just picked this up with some other parts and was wondering what it could of possibly come out of.

10 bolt
4.75 bolt pattern
58" drum to drum
leaf brackets 40" in between
steel plug
44-1 printed bottom right
a tag with 45 over 11 - 4.10 ratio

I'm guessing a chevy malibu/ monte carlo? Jeep maybe?
Any help?

That's a DANA 44 axle, so it wasn't under a Malibu or Monte Carlo. Jeep would by 5-5 1/2"
The 4 3/4" bolt pattern suggests GM car, but that doesn't seem right?
Are you sure about the bolt circle measurement? I would bet that it is really 5" and that would open up more opportunities.

Thanks for the prompt reply longhair, I measured again this time from the points you indicated and came up with 4.5"... I know ford has a smaller lug pattern, bronco? I'm gonna pop the top on it and see what the guts tell me. Will put some more pics up later.

I just twisted the u joint and noticed both axles are turning the same direction, is that a simple way to suggest its posi-trac?

Re: Dana 44-1 id

Looks like they used the dana 44 on the jeep cj willy from 1948 to 1969. Thanks for taking a look.
