Rochester 2 Jet help!
I just purchaced a 1969 Chev C10 with a 307 and 3 in the tree.
It is stock, untouched. I have since replaced the gas tank and the 2 jet with a autoline C9070 rebuilt one and it was bogging off idle like there was no accelerator pump but it was pumping. I exchanged it for an other 2 jet and it has no bog but it leaks fuel when I shut the motor off, leaking out the shaft and boiling on the intake. and it surges off idle cruise I could try another 3rd carb but I am not too amused. Has anyone dealt with this carb and can I use a adaptor plate to bolt on a 2100 motorcraft or a holley 350 2bbl. I am Paying $107.0 a liter and leaking fuel is bad news, plus it's hard to start cause it's flooded. Do I throw the dice on another C9070? |

Re: Rochester 2 Jet help!
Most reman carbs are not right. That is a good model carb. there is no need to cobble the truck up putting on one that doesn't fit. If it's flooding like you say, gas is getting buy the needle & seat. It could be a piece of foriegn material in it. Try this trick first. Put a clamp on the rubber fuel line to block off the flow. Start the engine & run it till it dies. Take the clamp off & restart it. The rush of fuel going in will usually flush the material on through. If it doesn't work the first time try it again. If it still doesn't work you need to take the top off the carb & see what the problem is. Make sure the float floats & doesn't have gas in it. Check the float level. Clean out the needle & seat. Too much fuel pressure can cause this but it worked on the other carb so I dought if that is the problem.

Re: Rochester 2 Jet help!
i ditched the 2bbl on my 72 burb C20 307 3 on the tree. got a nice 80's Q-jet and it runs awesome now. gas mileage is just as good if not better. the small primaries also make for better throttle response from that small v8 and the big secondaries make the most of the displacement when power is needed. best bang for the buck!

Re: Rochester 2 Jet help!
Well I have the third 2jet on there.
Also the last 2jet didn't have the vent thing on the top and I thought I had a exhaust leak but it was the carb cause with this 3rd carb, it has the vent and I dont hear the leak. Maybe it was the gasket...... I dunno but this one is the same problems. If I hold 2 fingers in the airhorn on the air cleaner it runs smooth and doesn't surge, but otherwise its surging at cruise speeds and off idle plop. Maybe its the points but it would still miss if I had my fingers in there and it dont. It idles smooth too. |

Well I converted to HEI today, new plugs, wires, cap rotor.
Carb is still surging, on the highway it runs crappy. |

Re: Rochester 2 Jet help!
Well I ditched the bronze filter and it runs 90% better.
Would that mean anything other than the bronze filter is a poj? I put it 2 inlines, 1 under the cab and 1 at the carb. I still feel a hint of surging but I think if I redo the air/fuel mixture I will be ok. I hope. |

Re: Rochester 2 Jet help!
Well I replaced the dist. with hei, new cap rotor wires plugs fuel pump exhaust pcv valve and it still surges and hesitation at a stop sign.
Oh ya and new gas tank. I'm gonna phone autoline again and see whats up. When it's half choke it works great, soon as it's open choke it chokes. 4 times a charm I guess. Last edited by Beachcomber; 09-12-2010 at 10:36 PM. |
