E-Brake intermediate cable, help?
Ok so I have not had ANY luck finding the right length cable for my ride,
68 Longbed, SBC/TH400/12b. The cable that was on was fraying, right where it goes through guide on tailshaft housing. It's 119". Neither BBC/TH400 or SBC/TH350 cables fit. BTW- Also need the cable guide on RH side, for solid rod. PM me if ya got one. Took the truck for a spin w/o cable & forgot about it and it disappeared Thanks

Re: E-Brake intermediate cable, help?
You could check with inlinetube. They make them up.

Re: E-Brake intermediate cable, help?
NAPA also lists them by length in their brake catalog, run a piece of heavy cord around all the anchors and mark the ends and measure.

Re: E-Brake intermediate cable, help?
Yeah, looks like Inline might be my best bet. LMC wasn't.
Nuthin against NAPA but my local one has pissed me off to many times. Anybody got a line on the equalizer that fits on solid rod??

Re: E-Brake intermediate cable, help?
I got all those pig tails, and the equalizer rod from LMC. They have it as a kit.
The cable shouldn't be a big deal, just search on your wheel base. You could have some differing year parts in the mix that could be throwing everything off? Or, if you are missing a pig tail it will seem as though your cable is too long.

Re: E-Brake intermediate cable, help?
yeah vectorit
I saw LMC has got the whole kit but I only need the RH side equalizer. Was kinda hoping someone here had one cheap. LMC doesn't have the cable nor any places I checked. I gotta call to double check there lengths w/ Inline tube. Cuz the ones I've gotten have been to short. It was all there hangers & all & working, til I thought I got the right cable & it wasn't. I'm not gonna put the frayed one back in.

Re: E-Brake intermediate cable, help?
You ever find the right length? I'm running into the same thing with my 67. Thought I bought the right one from Classic Parts, but its too short.

Re: E-Brake intermediate cable, help?
I ordered a few for my 67 swb from all my parts books and none were correct or even close for that matter. finally phoned inline tube and had one made from my own measurements and now my e-brake works correctly. very inexpensive compared to all the other crap i bought before calling inline.

Re: E-Brake intermediate cable, help?
Cool! I just ordered the one they say is for a 67 from them so hope it is right for my truck. If its not, maybe I can get them to exchange it.

Re: E-Brake intermediate cable, help?
Well, got one from inline tube. Does anyone have a pic of what it should look like installed? Ours never had a good one so I'm not sure if mine is still too short or if this looks normal. Here is a pic of it from engine compartment. I need to get underneath and take some shots too, but hoping I can get some pics of successful installations.

From your photo it looks like the cable is missing the frame connectors that are under the driver/passenger seat, these are just heavy steel wire hooks that add tension and straighten the cable along the frame towards the rear of the truck.

Re: E-Brake intermediate cable, help?
OK, here's the problem I ran into. As you will see in the photos, I can only get one side hooked with the...well, I'm not sure what they are called, but I think the pics are self explanatory. Oh, and to have it all hooked up like I do, the emergency brake is currently engaged. Both back wheels are not turnable. Argh! It seems I need about 3-4" more length in the intermediate cable to give me enough room to use the other hook and to disengage the brakes.
Passenger side hooked but driver's side unable to reach: Driver's side unhooked: This shows the distance I still need to connect the driver's side:

Re: E-Brake intermediate cable, help?
Cable looks too short to me.
Did you have your old one to compare length to the new one? LWB or SWB?

Re: E-Brake intermediate cable, help?
Technically, it is unengaged, meaning the e-brake handle is not pulled. To unengage it now, I have to unhook the intermediate cable from the little arm that hooks into the frame on the passenger side. I have the adjustment all the way out on the cable portion that is adjustable.

I just sent an email to Dan over at Inline Tube including these pics. We'll see what he says. The real kicker is I ordered one from them and one from Classic Parts and both were identical length. I assumed I had done something wrong when I ordered from Classic Parts, but evidently not. I can't find anything in my setup that would make it different from any other 67.

Re: E-Brake intermediate cable, help?
I had a custom one made by Inline Tube. Just used the one they gave me and told them how many more inches I needed. i think I added about 5". If you have your old cable, you can have them make you one to the same length. If not, you may have to order the stock one and then figure out what length you need.

Re: E-Brake intermediate cable, help?
I bought ALL of my e-brake cables from Carquest. They had all the parts on the shelf....you just need to find a good counter guy that knows what he is doing (that is the hardest part)
