5 lug / 6 lug interchangeable hubcaps??
I've switched everything over on my truck to 5 lug and I plan on running the factory 5 lug steel rims from a 75 chevy truck. I really want that factroy look, will the 60-66 hubcaps fit that 5 lug wheel?

Re: 5 lug / 6 lug interchangeable hubcaps??
As long as the hubcaps came off 5 or 6 lug wheels with bumps and not clips, they'll fit. Just about any 10 1/8" inch hubcap from a GM passenger car from 1954 on up will fit, along with truck caps from 1961-62(?) & newer when they eliminated the clips. Not that you'd want to, but the same size Ford passenger car hubcaps from 1949 on will also interchange.
The only real difference is between the wheels with 3 hubcap bumps versus 4 bumps. On a 3 bump wheel the bumps are all the same size, and don't stress the hubcap very much. On a 4 bump wheel 2 are large and 2 are small. The 4 bump wheels do stretch the cap a bit tighter. They work fine, there is a slight risk on old, tired steel caps that the retaining edge of the cap can split because of the additional stretch. The newer aluminum caps don't seem to suffer this problem, no doubt because they were designed to work with the 4 bump wheels. I've run a variety of Chevy passenger caps on mine when it was both 6 lug and after conversion to 5 lug. Last edited by markeb01; 09-07-2010 at 02:21 PM. |
