How to restore rims

I just found 2 great rims at a local salvage yard. I want to sand them down, primer them then paint. Any suggestions on steps to do this? I am looking for other opinions to see if what I want to do would be the right way to do this.
Also while at the salvage yard I FINALLY found a great set of manual doors for my 86 silverado!!!! These doors are perfect. Very littler rust. Passenger door window was shattered at some point but man I am glad the search is over. I am also wanting to sand these doors down and primer them. I don't have a paint job in the near future but want to get these doors primered and put them on b4 my others just rust off!!
Thanks for any input!!!

Re: How to restore rims

For steel wheels...sandblast the rims and have them powdercoated...they'll never look better and will outlast your typical painted wheels.

Re: How to restore rims

^^ X2... I just sand blasted, primmed, and painted my rallys with eastwoods argent silver and Im wishing I had just had them powder coated. They turned out ok, but powder coating would have been a better choice. Just my opinion...

Re: How to restore rims

Here is my rims. I got about $50 in redoing these.

These were a cheap redo just for winter rims.

Re: How to restore rims

I understand that Les Schwab tires stores do powder coating. I want to go that route when I get new shoes for my '71.

Price will vary from shop to shop, area to area.

I had all four of mine done for $300. That includes having them media blasted. Most PC shops will blast as part of their process, to clean, smooth and prep the metal.

Re: How to restore rims

Acrophobia your wheels look great!
On average how much does powdercoating cost??
My wheels are the rallys as well. I am new to this forum and new to restoring a vehicle. Bought my Silverado K10 about 5 years ago. Just now starting to restore it. I use it as my daily driver and it just turned 100k miles yesterday. I will post pictures this weekend.
Thanks for the replies.
I am looking at just sanding the wheels down, primering them then painting them silver.

Thanks!! It takes a good bit of time to get them looking good. I cant quote powder coating prices, but I can tell you I have about $80 invested in them and I would strongly recommend using the eastwood paint. Its $12 a can, but you get what you pay for.
