some 4x4 questions from a 2wd guy
ok i was sitting around my house labor day weekend and had all theses parts laying around, 1 4x4 in the middle of rebuild, 3/4 ton rear sub springs and a parts truck 4x4 with some kind of a lift and a good trans. here comes the questions.
1 cause the rear is narrower then the front axle what are you guys and gals doing about the space minus different off set rims? 2 with 8 leaf rear and 2 inch block rear and a 5 leaf front what kind of lift am i looking like (and if front is going to sit to low what kind of options do i have to lift the front minus blocks) 3 with this kind of lift what things should i add to make the truck not to top heavy *i know it will be but what options do i have 4 ill have pictures up soon so u all can look what happens when boredom happens (not really a question but i know )

Re: some 4x4 questions from a 2wd guy
1)If you are talking about the differance in the axle widths from front to rear, nothing.
2)Really there's no telling. Springs can sag based on how hard they were used (i.e. constantly overloaded). As far as the front, lift springs are about you're only option. Please don't put blocks on the front, really unsafe. 3)Good (new) shocks/sway bars. 4)Sounds good. Last edited by dropd80s; 09-07-2010 at 10:17 PM. |

Re: some 4x4 questions from a 2wd guy
the only time i can see running different sized tires is on a full blown mud truck. which we arent talking about. so just get all the same wheels and tires and call it good. to run any decent sized tire you will be above the body so thats now a problem. my front tires stick out about 1 inch further on each side... at least thats how it looks. and i dont have the flex to tuck either front tire into the top of the wheel well so that doesnt matter.. leaves dont effect lift if the arch isnt there.. you can lengthen the front shackles to get maybe an inch of lift. but it will push your axle forward so you will need a zero rate leaf which will add another inch and move your axle back.

I've never seen anybody do anything about the difference in track widths between the front and rear, its just something we live with.
