engine mounts, fuel pump, filter, fuel lines, accesories like starter etc., hoses, pcm flash, harness tweek, drive shaft adj ( maybe)....all I can think of....
probably $750-1000 if you mod ur own harness. NOT including the eng/trans!

Re: 1980 truck with a 03 motor and trans
your looking at alot more than that a pcm tune is 400 ish ... looking closer to 1500 if you dont go aftermarket harness.

Re: 1980 truck with a 03 motor and trans
I used fuel injection 1987 tanks, in tank pumps, vette filter regulator, engine mount adapter brackets, harness and tune, 91 suburban cluster, and lots of little odds and ends. It will be well worth it in the end but it's not cheap.

Re: 1980 truck with a 03 motor and trans
I am curious as to why you would spend the money for the swap and only do a 4.8? Find a 5.3 at least.

Re: 1980 truck with a 03 motor and trans
Why do i need to flash the pcm ? And i like the 4.8 better than the 5.3 ive had both motors and the 4.8 still has plenty of power and gets decent gas milage im driving this truck everyday i want it to be a lil more effecint and potent

Re: 1980 truck with a 03 motor and trans
The pcm needs to be flashed to remove VATS (Vehicle Anti Theft System) and any of the emissions equpment that is removed from the harness. If VATS is not removed, the truck will not run.

Re: 1980 truck with a 03 motor and trans
It's cheaper to run the stock computer, and get it flashed than get a new standalone ecu. I paid $550 for a new custom built standalone harness and the ecu flash from the guys at lt1swap.com. Only requires 3 wires to hook up to run too!

Re: 1980 truck with a 03 motor and trans
If you are handy with wiring diagrams it is easy enough to modify the harness yourself. I took my time and it took me probably 20hrs worth of work to get it done. I also have a bit of experience with these ls motors so that helped a bit, and I have HP tuners which allows me to tune the factory GM PCM's.

Re: 1980 truck with a 03 motor and trans
you can mod the harness yourself, the information is out there on the how to mod the harness. If you go one wire at a time, its not a huge deal. if you look at all the wires at once your gonna be over whealmed. go one wire at a time and write what each wire does, make a chart, and design your own fuse box. wire it into a junkyard fuse box with new terminals. Thats exactly what I did.
