Fuel sending units

First off hello to everyone ! , and now to the good part questions questions . Ok here we go i'm building a truck from scratch i have a 87 shortbed frame and duel 16 gallon tanks ,75 cab and front sheetmetal , 81 fleetside bed and my my 68 396ci /th400 im yankin out of my 56 gmc and am having problems finding and deciding which sending units to use should i buy ones for a 87 to match the tanks ($400 a piece at dealership) or try to get some for a 75 to match the gauge cluster? and would it hurt to put the 75 units in the 87 tanks?......Whoe ok i'm and my hands are cramping lol......too much typing..............anyone can u please help!

I assume the Summit ones are more expensive because they are GM replacement units? The fuel cell I'm getting that Jeff has (SUM-290108) has the SUM-290180 sending unit in it.
It only took me about 2 hours to get these part numbers since the Summit site is so freaking fast.

I never took a sending unit our of a truck like ours. Does is have a float that you can bend to adjust the reading level. These look different (then I expected), will they work? Will there be any problems? I really need to get my gauge working. Im hoping to take off the bed soon, replace the tank (maybe), I might go with a new stainless tank, then install all new hoses and stuff right there at the tank. Im also going to cut the switch valve out of the loop. I dont really use the 2-tank system very much and its going to cost me more then its worth (to me) to get it fixed.

Anyone ever used the summit units shown above?
Which one would I need for my 16 gallon tank (the 8-1/2" or 11")?

I'll leave the technical answers up to the other guys, Brandon really helped me in that area so maybe he'll catch this. I've never pulled a sending unit so I assumed they all look like the Summit pictures.

The vdo-22602d is just a straight up sending unit with no fuel hose hook ups i think if its the same i have in my 56's aluminum tank and the summit tube types i think are the same so u have to plumb your tank elsewhere for fuel i,m just looking for a stock replacement if possible.
