What is the reason to move the crossmember back?

Re: pics of trucks with trailing arm crossmember moved back
The only reason people do it is when these trucks are layed on the ground the wheelbase shortens up front and rear .... meaning the wheels are no longer centered in the wheel openings , front and rear , people do move the axle centerlines on extremely lowered vehicles ..... absolutely improves the look of the vehicle , stock or mildly lowered do not need this done to them ... hope that helps

you also can simply space the brackets that the trailing arms bolt to. That is what I did on my longbed frame before I sold it. It moves the wheel back into the center of the rear wheelwell. If not, they sit too far forward.
